@ Richard, LOL, yes you have a good memory Richard. I cant even remember all the names. I remember you were in the cricket team and we were unlucky not to win the trophy that year.

Why do we all remember Miss Uys?
When I saw the pic my first words were...  Haai dis juffrou Uys!
My son (35) saw me in the netball pic and does not think it's very cool that my dress was so short, even though it was a netball dress.  Ha, and I always thought my mom was old fashion. He got her genes for sure.

hehehe! I will let Aunty Daina answer this question.... Skimpy skirt and all!   allgood

Hehe, I had one hell of a crush on him somewhere along the line. Think we were about 11 of 12 . Not that he took any notice of me. But then again, lots of girls were gagga about him.  For some reason if I hear the song "Puppet on a String" it reminds me of him. No  idea why.

Hi Stephanie....what was your maiden name or was it Van Niekerk...trying to place you as you seem to be from our time.

Stephanie Van Niekerk

Diana, yes van Niekerk is my maiden name.
I lived there from about 1958 up to 1972.
Grew up in 5/9th ave. Pepe and his folks use to live across the street from us.
Then I married Gys Cloete and we moved to Kimberley (he was still an appy and those days appies did not get housing).
We returned in Dec 1973 and stayed there till June 1976.
Your surname rings a bell, but I can not remember more about u.
My dad, Nick was a plumber and my mom, Bettie worked in the veggie shop and later years in the shopping center.
You may remember my brother. Bokkie van Niekerk. The guy with the one glass eye. Lost his eye in Oranjemund as a kid. Friend accidentally shot him in the eye with a pellet gun while playing cowboys and crooks. I also had older (8years) twin sisters, Lina and Ina
As a married person I lived in 22/2nd. Oi or was it 20/2nd. Was house on the corner. And Sister Webster lived across the road from us in 1st street or avenue. I can for the love of it not remember which was the avenues and which the streets.
Ok that sums it up in a nutshell.

Diana Rudd (Boehme)

I now remember your mother Bettie and the name Gys Cloete. The Freemantles moved to a 4bedroom house and we lived over the road from them then at E15-11.  My mom Elsie (with the ponytails lol) worked with your mom in the shopping center. I worked upstairs in accounts 1975-1976. I married after you left in  1976. I must mull this over as I should know you.

I worked in Henny Van Tonder's plumbing shop. Your dad Nick was my boss......... a real good bloke. It was a pleasure working for him; he treated the contractors fairly so accordingly we responded. Lots of fond memories working for Nick.

From the sounds inside my mind
For I'm one too many mornings

Hi there Stephanie - for what its worth, I remember your brother quite well and it must be many years ago.  The pellet gun incident made us all a bit more careful. I too was an avid hunter. I did not remember names of course.  I dont remember a lot of things on the other hand....  Have a great day!!

Stephanie Van Niekerk

Diana,
I remember your mom now. Her name was Elsie or something starting with an E?
Yes you are correct Pepe and his family moved to another house. The Zietmans then moved into their old house.
Can any of you remember Piet Scrap (Joubert). They lived on the corner next to Pep's old home.
I think I was a bit of a snob those days Diana, maybe that's why you don't remember me.   msn emoticon (68)
And also a real lil "mommy's girl".

Bobcat,
Thank you so much for those words.
That is how I remember my Dad. Fair and humble.

Join the club. I have a hard time remembering sometimes.
One of these days I will have to pin my name (with address) on my back incase I get lost.
Getting older is no joke and nobody warned me.  image031

Hi Stephanie,

I remember your brother well, I believe he was a good friend of Jacob Kruger (PPJ's son).
They were both a few years older than me.

I believe Bokkie has passed on - is this true? If so I am very sorry to hear about it.

Keep well.

Hi Stephanie, what a big surprise to see you on the forum:-). How are you and family keeping? Any news about Alwyn and Giel? Last time I heard Alweyn was in the Cape somewhere. Keep well and send all my best to all. Regards, Pepe
