I remember fondly, the fun evenings enjoyed by many at the Rec Club when there was an exhibition of the Pottery and other craft things held at the Rec Club. Geo Viljoen and Geraldine Hester as well as Sister Teresa Walters and Lorraine Theron are names I can recall who were wonderful potters. These ladies had amazing talent and Teresa Walters was amazing at cross stitch too. I recall Peta Simcoe being one of the guests I wonder if she would remember me and how close she is to Perth WA?, as we are living in her country.
We still have quite a bit of pottery bought from those ladies and I treasure it as memories of the good old days.

Gabi, just as a bit of an afterthought, I remember in one of those newsletters I scanned, don't ask which one, there was an article on one of those evenings... seemed quite popular in those days.... mmmh! WIne!

Hi Mike
Yes, wine has always been a great part of my life too. Hope one day someone will tell me that they too, attended some of those evenings/exhibitions of crafts, etc. I wonder where Teresa Walters is now? She was a wonderful sampler maker. Its pouring here at present but have just enjoyed a sparkling red wine with our dinner Where there any photos in the article you scanned Mike? Would be great to see them online ;)

They also used to have cheese & wine evenings at the old 303 clubhouse when it was located north of the school past the cricket field.
There was one evening I remember when they also had loads of different types of breads to go with the cheese.

While in Oranjemund & after returning from a holiday in the UK in 1975, where my uncle was into beer & wine making. I started to make Plum and Orange wine ( instead of beer where Ronnie de Lange was the expert)
I held  onto two one gallon jars of the orange wine for years. Eventually around 1993 Johan Kemp and Theo Veiers distilled the lot, the resulting alchol was bottled with a wooden oak dowl ( to be aged with Oak) I still had a half litre botle, before I left in 2005. ( You cannot beleive how clear it burned when ignited, almost no visible flame) and it didnt tast bad at all.

This is slightly off the topic but shows what a small world we live in.
We moved to O'mund from Plymouth, England in Nov 1981 and on a trip back to Plymouth in 1988 we stayed with my dad's sister. Her next door neighbour gave us a bottle of carrot wine that he had made (not sure of the correct terminology) and it turns out that he had sailed out of Luderitz many years previously when he was in the navy!

Like I said a bit off the topic but knew there was a link to wine somewhere - albeit carrot! If I remember correctly it was pretty vile stuff!
