Moths New Years Eve Dance

Will always remember, these dances, first as a youngster when my parents would return with the fancy hats they used to have at the time and later when I was old enough to attend these. Was always a grand affair, with a strict dress code until that was relaxed. Didnt attend much after that.

Yes, the preparation for the costumes went on well in advanced.  I was never old enough to attend but my parents and their friends certainly enjoyed them!

When I came back from a trip to the UK,1975, I came back with a proper Tux, used it on board ship and to a couple od New Yeard's bashes. But as said before the dress code was gradually relaxed & it just was'nt the same. More's the pity.

I think the last Moths New Year party was held about 5 or 4 years back, did'nt attend, but dropped some folks off there, remember that they had a fireworks display.....

On  the  subject of the  MOTHS  new  years  dances  .. the Diamond  queen  ball  .. unearthed  another  pic ..  The  Diamond  queen  like  any  queen   ( Miss SA Miss World etc etc ) had  duties ..  and  did the  public  apearances   thing .. here  is  a  pic  of  Fiona Bennet    a  Diamond  queen of many  years ago  presenting   a  cup  for ?? to  Roy  Fields .
I  remember  my  My Mom  was  heartbroken  by  Fiona's  untimely  passing   and  could  not mention  her  name  without  choking up .her  belief  was  that  parents  went   first  and  then  their  children   next  and  anything  contrary  to  that was  contrary  to  how  nature  should  work  and  therefore  unacceptable   and  too hard to  bear ..   Enjoy  and remember  that life  is  indeed  precious ...  its  not about  how  many breaths  you  take  but  about  how  many  thing  take your  breath  away !

I remember wee Roy, was always keen to whip out that mouth organ for a tune, and if there was no mouth organ available, he would nip into the nearest kitchen and crab a pair of spoons, man that wee man could play dem spoons!

I always laughed when the moths would play bouncer at the door at various functions, you'd be pissed try to gatecrash, then wee Roy stood before, barring you from entering, you always thought twice about going over him, but he always had that chap Big Jim Reid behind him, now that would've been a problem......

I heard that Jim had a coffin in his office when he worked for Debeers in Ghana!
