This looks like the Berg River Canoe marathon,, do not think this was on the Orange River.  We had a very small canoe club, Skeleton Coast canoe club, Keith Ager, Tjeert and Heather Greyveling, Eric Van der Merwe and Dieter Heiser, and on the odd occasion Patricia Heiser and Des van der Merwe also canoed.

That would make more sense, as I said, I found this in a folder with all the other Oranjemund pics, marked clubs, or something to that effect...

Hi, The photo is the start of the Berg River marathon, I cannot recall the year- sometime between 82' -85'. We had five entrants from the Skeleton Coast canoe club, Eric Van Der Merwe and Keith Ager from Oranjemund, and the the other three members from Springbok(if my memory serves me right)
