There was a big hole that was dug out by diggers (directly behind the sheds at the yacht club) with water at the bottom. does anyone remeber that?

The  big  hole .. if I remember  correctly  , a  hole  with a  pump  station  ..  this was originally  a  seepage  dam  that  was used  to  fill  up  the pink  pan ,  water  was  pumped  over  from  there ...

Sandy , in the 70's there was a big hole full of stagnant water, which was between the sea nad the pan, I remember a fence around it and a sign saying Blazeria or something to that effect... Kat I also remember in the 80's your dad driving a big bulldozer over that hole on the beach....

Yep, that hole has been there since the early days... possibly even as far back as the late 60's early 70's. Alf shared a few tales with me a while back how as youngsters they used to play on the pump jetty in the big hole.
Kat your dad was involved with the attempt at reviving that hole as a suitable supply of salt water for the pan.  Another attempt was made a few years ago without any success, and the supply pumps were stuck into the laggon at the river mouth until it silted up.
We moved the pump back into the river last year just to get water back in the pan but even that's been a bit of a struggle. We are aiming for a full pan by spring though...
All things electrical contain smoke. Making it come out is easy; getting it back in? ... yeah right!!!

Good  to hear  that  they  trying  to   get the  pan  back  to old  level  ,,,  Problem  with  those   sea  water  seepage dams  is  that  they  would over time  clog  up ..  same  problem  occured  on  the  mines  when  they used them  as    clear  water  supply  fro  the  screening  plants  .. hence  the  building of  the 3 plant  jetty   extending  beyond the  breaker line  and  the  not  so  successful  undersea  tunel  I  think  at  # 2 plant  years ago .. it  seems the  sea  objected to  their  intrusion   and  was  always  trying to  dash  the jetty to pieces  or  flood  the  underwater  tunnel   ...
