Achmat hails Manto's replacement
Last updated: Thursday, September 25, 2008
Manto Tshabalala-Msimang has been axed as minister of health and will be replaced by Barbara Anne Hogan.

Zackie Achmat of the Treatment Action Campaign has described Hogan's appointment as "the best news that South Africa could have had".
He described Hogan as both a good friend and a good person.

Achmat said that not only is she a senior member of the ANC who spent time in prison for her beliefs, she also served on the portfolio committee for finance, from where Achmat says former president Thabo Mbeki had her removed because she raised questions about the arms deal and expressed support for the Treatment Action Campaign.

Regarding Tshabalala-Msimang, Achmat said he hopes she will now withdraw from public health care. "She has brought too much sadness," he said.

Hogan's record
Hogan joined the African National Congress (ANC) shortly after the 1976 Uprisings, when the organisation had been declared illegal and had moved its activities underground.

Her responsibilities in the movement were to mobilise the white political left, participation in public political campaigning and supplying the ANC underground in Botswana with information about trade union and community activity in South Africa.

Hogan was detained in 1982 for "furthering the aims of a banned organisation" and after being interrogated, ill-treated and held in solitary confinement for one year, she was found guilty of high treason and sentenced to ten years in jail.

Hogan was released in 1990 together with other political prisoners, of which Nelson Mandela was one. Upon release, Hogan played a pivotal role in restructuring the ANC in her capacity as secretary of the PWV regional office.

That  was part of  Thabobs   downfall .. he  protected  a  lot of  incompetent / crooked  people .. even the Zuma  he  could  have  swept him out of the way  properly  if he  was  decisive  .. years ago   .. instead he chose to be the  diplomat to other  countries ..  Duh !!
anyhow   a  few  people are betting that the  temp  pres  will  maybe  just  become the  permanent  pres ..  removing the  zulu boy  spectre ??  whats opinion on that one ??

In the Argus this afternoon .. seems the  temp pres man may well be pipped to carry on till 2014 .. so maybe the zulu boy is thwarted .. they should  just offer him a handsome pension  and tell him to go back to his  numerous  wives and play king there . ( maybe they all gang up and beat the  shit  out of him ?? ) . ( although i do  not like Nkosazama Zuma ,, she at least ahd the common  sense to divorce the idiot ) I would  gladly give some of my tax rand to that  fund to just keep him off the  political radar ...    ape

Have you noticed too that the village idiot Malema has been suspiciously quiet?  Perhaps someone has squashed the nasty little bug and told him to shut the f*** up!  Now, that will be the real silver lining out of this political circus!

SandyB

Indeed so .. As  said  Thabob  was just so damm passive  , letting things slide  in  SA while  swanning  around the world .. protecting  the bad eggs  , firing some good  principled  folk  , letting others run wild ( as per Malemic mouthed child of kangaman )  and of  course the Kangaman himself  , like said i would have  offered him a package he could not refuse ... maybe  we might just see  some order return ... I'm sure Thabob  was just too baabelas  most of the time  to  see the palace revolt occuring ... a  sure result of  spending too much time tippling  his old buddy with Dr Beetroot ...
Also  hope the  new man keeps the  arms deal thing alive ( its a possibility if he  was not  part of the  stinking mess )

All his  lack of interest  has caused this leadership vacuum and the current divisions ..

Other interesting one  was  the magoo bomber  ANC darling gone horribly wrong Robert Mc Bride  sacked ... about time too !!

Also a hope now that he does not have protection is the  shady Mr  Selebi   ... to  face the full  music as he should ... ?? lets wait and see ...

@ Florrie  maybe  somebody has  replaced the light at the end of the tunnel albeit a low wattage ??

@ Cherry  .. Another  comment on the  silence of  the Malemic mouth  Julius ... In any culture  ,, My analogy ..  the  youth are supposed to  respect their elders , that is  an  obvious  result if the  elders  are  active , present ,  have morals and are  principled , .... Our scenario here was one of  absent parent , corrupt parent , .. so yes  in any "family " discipline  will crumble and the children will try to take over ...  The  youth league  are  supposed to   represent the youth ,  have common sense  discipline  and interact  sensibly with the parent ,, instead we had ranting and demanding  out of control "children" ,, and yes most puzzling still is the  age of the  youth league leadership .. ?? they no  longer  in their youth or is it an indicator of their level of maturity .. ??

methinks the temp pres  is of the old school  and yes will demand the respect  if he is the principled man he is touted to be ....

So maybe  he  has told the children to shut  up ... ??

I think that the ANC  even though  they got swept up in the  kangaman  hype and hysteria ( or too afraid to break ranks  and  speak their truth ?? )  know deep down that   JZ and his  rabble of  followers are not good for the goose that lays the golden egg ... ??

On the goose that  lays the golden egg ... Mr Manuel seems to have made a  shrewd move , resigning ... reaction ?? .... Markets went crazy .!!. then saying  it was just protocol to resign and offer his  services to the new government ..  it just shows how confidence in somebody  who appears to be very level headed can  sway things .. clever power play ..  they still want that nice bag of sweeties to feast off  no matter what  their leanings ,, unless of course they  go mad  ,think they invincible   and lose the plot  like  our  northerly neighbour  Mab Bob ...
