Thanks so much John and Leila for the photographs.  I dont think I will take a journey down memory lane, I left Oranjemund in 1987, and yes, from what I see it does not look if much has changed.

The higest love of all finds it's fulfilment not in what it keeps, but in what it gives.  We may give without loving, but we cannot love without giving

Great pictures! You were so so so close to the house that I grew up in. Man!!  I appreciate that you took a couple of really interesting pictures like the ones around and behind the Moth Club. Also the ones at the Abattoir Substation and the flats.  I used to play around these places  often.
It seems Oranjemund is getting a lot of rain these days. I only rained twice in the time that we lived there.
I hope the Oranjemund vacation destination concept works out. If I were in South Africa I would definitely make use of the opportunity   I live in the USA so that is a little hard for me to do but I definitely plan to visit Oranjemund again.

Hi John,
I enjoyed your pictures, great nostalgia trip. The pic of you reminded me of your Dad, you look just like him. Also intrigued by the group pic of the first Karate club. I was able to identify John Wright, Jimmy and Tessa Agnew, Denis Symes, Eddie van Niekerk and Gunter Machts.
Thanks for the memories,
Bob.

Hi Johanvz & Bob
I must say that a return trip from the USA will be worth it Johan.  I dont know where you are in the US but if your going on a decent holiday, a return to Oranjemund is one not to be missed.  The rekindling of memories and events is actually priceless.  Even if the people have gone, you can walk on the beach and river side and it all comes flooding back.  I intend to return rather sooner than later but next time I will stay for a few weeks.
As for the holiday destination concept, it is actually up to all of us scattered around the (small) world to make it happen.  If Oranjemunders knew they can return, I think it could constitute a large part of the holiday destination crowd.
Travel in North America is easy with much to see and do.  Travel with my kids to Oranjemund to share with them where I partly grew up is going to be great for them when they experience the excitement and value that I will surely display.  Sometimes kids dont see the other side of a parent but its sure hard to hide if its spontaneous.
Take some time off and take someone with you Johan....
Glad the pics were appreciated Bob.  If only I had the nerve to send in some of the stories I wrote  while on holiday a few months ago...
Start saving you lot!

John
