Remember Oom Wessie or as we all remember him as "Kan Nie Worrie Nie."
Another Omund character like Marggie that will never be forgotten.

Before his death (sadly by murder) Omund company had him back in Omund and opened a beer garden in his name - I think between Casey's and the old  market. He used to have us around at his house in the early 70s, at the end of the December school holidays and lectured us on the dangers of drugs and to rather have a drink or smoke.

A good man!

Yes kannie worrie was a gentleman and a great friend of my Father(pikkewyn) his passing was a great shock to my pops.I remember one night with some pals sitting on the corner by the rugby field of old (opposite 12 avenue )and waiting for kannie worrie to come crawling passed in his old beetle he used to drive. He was never stopped even though under the influence ,never caused an accident and used to take abou a half hour to drive from his favourite watering hole to his house plus minus 800 metres..truely  an oranjemund legend..

:36_2_35:  Post moved to the correct thread.  Is there a way of somehow getting a popup message when starting a duplicate topic? I am still working my way through all the topics and may sometimes inadvertantly duplicate a previously posted topic.

Nice Pic Carl I remember all 3 of those faces. Go to "Kannie Worrie" , " Kan Nie Worrie Nie" and "I wonder What they must be thinking" all 3 on this board with great tales of Kannie Worrie. I don't know how to do links so unless the Georgs can help you'll just have to search the board.

My Dad told us once about this regular at Casey's who was known to everybody as "Kannieworrienie". Apparently he had gotten into a dispute with CDM about something, and when the matter was not settled to his liking he decided to take the matter one step further.
As a form of protest, he pitched a tent in the middle of the traffic circle outside Caseys and proceeded to camp there for a while. He was well equiped with all the works, skottel braai, dop, en chop. During the day he would toast the cars going by and offer beers to whoever was interested.

I came across this photo of him in Frans van Rooyen's collection in the photo section of the Oranjemund online website. He's the one in the center.
