ORANJEMUND

What is Oranjemund?

Just another town in Namibia?

A town of familiar buildings and places that have stood the test of time for many who have passed through it.

What gives the town a soul?  Not the buildings for they will always be there!

The soul is its people!

People that have live, lived, played, worked, died or retired and moved on to where ever in this small world of ours.
Each one of them has some memory of the town whether happy or sad.

The people are the soul of the town and it has had many over the years.

Our short time over the reunion, gave us a brief glimpse of the new soul and it is a good one!

There are still many good people in the town that give it soul – concerned people for the future of their town.

Here is to the new soul of the town – WE THANK YOU!

 bravo Richard,

Yes, I feel blessed that I was born in Oranjemund and grew up in a place with so much soul.
I'm soooo proud to be called an Oranjemunder, and will always be!  woo_hoo

Having a moment there my Richard?
All jokes...yes O'mund is special and oh so different from any other town I've lived in. Amazing how gaga one gets when seeing an OR  ( SC) car driving along any road or highway in SA. At a braai or any other gathering you'd meet up with somebody from O'mund and "gaan aan" as if you the best of friends even though you actualy never new them during their time in O'mund. We've often had occasions where a bunch of us are to-gether and bore the sh*t out of the guests that have no connection to O'mund.  that says something about a very special town and as I've said before I wonder if there is another place on earth where the people have his effinity. It has been truely wonderful for me to have grown up in this town from the age of 4 to 23.

It amazes me how "apart" the English and Afrikaans speaking Oranjemunders grew up. Ok, today there is more communication, but when you meet up with an ex Oranjemunder who happens (in my case) to be an Afrikaaner, they rattle off a whole list of Afrikaans names of people that lived and went to school during my my time, and all I can do is shake my head..... Gee! where we really that different back then?

To repeat what i said to Richard in a PM which sums it up for me:

"We certainly had a unique & wonderful childhood in a unique and wonderful town with unique and wonderful people."

Di on a similar note what also amazes the hell out of me is whenever OMD crops up in conversation how many people, or their uncle, or their brother, father, cousin whatever either lived or worked in OMD. At my College their are three of us who worked in OMD.          OMD has touched many peoples lives.
