Aaagh! this just pissed me off, I edited the article, see attached word doc, which I will email to the editor.....

Link didn't work for me either, but I went straight to their website and then searched for "Oranjemund" and found the article. My comment was accepted with a note to say that it would be posted as soon as it has been checked by them.

That is an utterly disgusting article for a modern journalist.

I think it amounts to irresponsible jounalism.

Yes, in the late 40's and early 50's we were restricted from leaving town too often. This was for medical reasons, as the effects of X-ray was not fully understood.

Even then, it was common knowledge that everybody was not x-rayed every time. In the late 50's, I went in and out of town at least 8 times in two years, and was never body searched, nor have I ever heard of anyone being searched.

Was the author or his source perhaps suspected of smugling and/or IDB, and now has an axe to grind?

I read the article on Sunday and immediately started commenting. Then I realised how p*ssed off I was and thought it would be preferable if I calmed down before continuing. So I'll try again today.
