Hi there Mike

I am absolutely gobsmacked - I remember you & your brothers - 2 bricks & a tikkie high!!

Stephen was the chubby one with curly blonde hair & somehow I was very protective of him when he was tiny - I think I protected him from the evils of our parents getting totally plastered at their weekly get togethers - i.e I was designated babysitter!!!!
Strange how one lives in a time warp - how dare you all grow up and have your own beautiful kids!

Penny, I just spoke to my Dad, he was having Pink Gins with his whiskey over at the other pensioners house, Roland knufner, the chef, he was in Oranjemund also for many years, working up at Affenrucken.... anyhow he's my dads neighbour down at Pigsville and they often have drinks and food together.

Anyhow he was very excited to hear that you were on the Forum, and asks after your mom.
He recounts a tale of when your folks were meant to be at my Folks house for a St Andrews day party, but your dad got pissed before the time and locked himself in his bedroom and went to sleep. So my mother went around to your house to wake him up, but he refused to get up and open the door, So my mother roped you into helping and the two of you stuck the garden hose through the top of the bedroom window and SPASH!!!!! got your old man up..... My dad was a bit pissed when he recounted the story.......

I'm sure that there are plenty more tales to tell......

You just have no idea of the things Vi got up to - your Dad spent his time apologising! She got me horribly plastered the afternoon I was meant to get engaged! She was always full of mischief and never a bad word about anyone -besides your Dad!! I remember your Dad for his language (could never understand the dialect but hell I caught the swear words.) After a day in his company I learnt all I needed to know about adjectives - I started using the F word rather lavishly and was told "That's uncle Jocks word and only he may say that!"

My mother is 81 now and lives with me - she has senile dimensia but remembers Jock very well.  She drives me totally insane with all the shit she gets up to. I have to watch her like a hawk. She still believes everyone is good and still sticks to the old habit of feeding the workmen, so they keep come aknocking! She sends love to everyone who knows her and wishes Jock well. If Jock has retired why is he still in Omund?  In my day when you retired you had to leave town.

This forum is such a great idea - well done!!

Mike  .. the other  one  I  remember  your Mum  singing ..   my  mind  goes  back   ... sportsmans  busy  hubub  .. suddenly this  voice  pipes above  all  ..   the  songs  words  were  something about  " the  sash  my  father wore "  ....   silence    .. the chatter  would  die  down  immediately  as  Vi  in her  moment would  sing  her  song  ..  truly   magnificent  and  imprinted  in  my  memory  bank  forever ...   I  still hear  her  voice  in  quiet  moments ..

Hey Sands

Viv shares your humour over PM - will put this to bed now - PENNY MULLER -you dorkus!!

How you doing?

Paul Alexander

Penny, no fair, how come wee Stevie and Mike get a mention and not me *sulk* - guess its true what my dad said about me being the good one and never getting into any trouble :)

Where did you say your mom lives?

Penny

Hi there Paul

Sorry - I think you were the one who got up to all the shit and then blamed the other two!!!
I actually don't remember your personalities at all but "the apple never falls far from the tree" - you are after all Jock & Vi's sons.

My Mom lives with me in Parklands (Narclands or darklands I believe!) Tableview in Cape Town. As stated in a previous mail she has senile dimensia and is worse than the 3 Alexander boys together!!!!
Have a great weekend and and will logon again on Monday - yes I surf at work!!!!!!!

Paul Alexander

Ha fair comment, I mean if you weren't surfing you'd have to work, this in turn would demonstrate to the higher powers that you were in fact capable of far more work than they originally thought and they would thereafter 'reward' you with even more work... it's all about keeping the balance right...

I'm pretty sure your folks lived in Plumstead at one time (or thereabouts) some time in my youth my dad took me to see an optician in Cape Town and insisted that we pop in and see the Worths while we were there... man we got sooooo lost but I vaguely remember a swimming pool (kidney shaped I think)

Sid  and  flo's  home  in Tynemouth  road ..   too many  good  memories   .. The  pool was rectangular and of a  respectable  enough  length  to allow  one  to  swim  seriously .. Flo  used  to have  her  early  morning  swim  for  many  years   it kept  her  fit  enough  to  keep  up  with  the  youngsters  .. i  remeber  after  Vivs  marriage  to  stan .. we  partied at  the  house till the early  hours of  the morning .. and flo  was there  with  us   ..  only  going to  bed  when  the last  ones  left  .. at about  0500 ...  anyhow  there  was  a  braai  thye  following  day  .. I  arrived  there  at  about   1200  nursing  a serious  hangover   .. Lo  and  behold  there was  flo  looking  all  bright  and  bushy  tailed   .. drink in hand ... " Come  on  my  Sands  she said  ..  have  a sip "   putting  the glass  to  my  mouth .. I nearly puked  in  the  swimming pool   a  lot of  Coke  later could  I  face  anything .. tough  old  bird  Flo .. must  have  been  the swimming ...  I  attach  a pic  I  think  it was their  50th  wedding  anniversary  party  .. Providnece  was  that  john  had  in  stck  a small  tea set white and gold  with 50  on  it.. they  were thrilled  with  the  gift  ..  Freddy  we  will  always  miss  you  ..
