Thousands of abused children in Ireland

I don't know if any body else watched Sky news yesterday, when they anounced the outcome of an investigation into child abuse from catholic orphanges and schools dating back 40 odd years in Ireland. They interviewed some of the abused adults who are still traumatised and then interviewed a spokesman for the Christian fathers of the catholic curch (who was not wearing religeous regalia), who said very politely that this was not done under the name of religeon. Well what was it done under then? All the priests and nuns were wearing crosses and habits and dog collars and their priests uniforms or such and were working for the church and living in the catholic owned buildings and land, so what auspocis were they doing it under? image14They did not name and shame the individual nuns and priests, why not? Again the church is hiding like they did in the second world war and currently in America where they take the guilty priests and put them into retreats where they can go and hide away with out prosecution. What makes the catholic church above the law?

My comment .. i firstly i think that  many a  religious grouping has its  skeletons in the closet  and   reasons  for shame , again has to do with  the " absolute "  power bestowed by blind following ..  goodness sake , our creator gave us minds  to reason   to question  , yes even issues of faith  which those   in the positions of power  have to answer .. mostly they duck and hide behind the scripture  and try make people feel they  have failed ... guilt  if it works ... plea for forgiveness .. and then blind faith .. maybe putting it simplistically , but firstly  love yourself enough  to be able to love  the creator ..  not the other way around ..  so long as  people accept blindly abuse of this nature can occur ,,

Although this guy did not have anything to do with the abuse!!!!!! He covered it up

He eventually resigned after public pressure

The Governor-General of Australia, Peter Hollingworth, has provided a written explanation of his actions. On 20 February 2002, Hollingworth replied to criticism centred on his alleged mishandling of child sexual abuse cases in Queensland, when he was the Archbishop of Brisbane. Hollingworth conceded that the Anglican Church had not always lived up to community expectations about how child sexual abuse victims should be helped. He conceded that he himself could have done more to help the victims. Hollingworth apologise

Australian Governor-General Peter Hollingworth has released a document responding to claims he covered up allegations of child sex abuse. The Australian Labor Party (ALP), the Australian Democrats and child welfare groups have withdrawn support for Hollingworth until he responds to the most recent allegations. Kids First Foundation has announced that Hollingworth has withdrawn as a patron. Hollingworth has refused to resign as governor-general, but has admitted that his response to child abuse allegations may have been wrong.

Yep! Yep! Our school was on Carte Blanche a few years back , when the local priest was found to have fondled a classmate of mine.... bick story at the time, the Catholic church tried to brush the whole thing under the carpet, eventually the said priest was hidden away and then killed himself in a car prang...

the righteous pratt , still had the cheek to lecture me at school on morals....

I even saw (welfare) kids at my hostel getting invited into a "fathers" room , getting plied with liquor, come out about two hours later.... with a bundle of cash.....

Never trusted any of those priestly types.... not a single one... they all had vices....

We had a similar vcase with the school that my boys went to, Saint Andrews in Bloemfontein. The Anglican father was eventually arrested and charged and a former teacher also was charged but the irony is that the school principal and governing board tried to hush it all up and tried to play down the whole incident even though the teacher concerned had his nose broken by a group of standard five boys at the hostel who said no more abuse and then a brave parent took it to the press. The school pricipal shot me down in flames when i asked him to set up a help line to aid any other boys that might have more info leading to the teacher incident. He refused and refused to councell all the boys at the school. Low and behold 6 weeks later the bloody priest was in leg chains and hand cuffs for the same thing, but even more funny is that he is still with the church in bloemfontein but not at a school, but preaches every Sunday at a small congregation where i am sure children go with their parents. Sorry but can't forgive this kind of thing. Thants why i converted and went to the other side. Have just read the article in the Sunday Times on this whole ireland thing. It is sickening. All those christian brothers and nuns concerned should be hung, drawn and quartered and or even better put in a holding cell in Joberg central for a night or two and then lets see who protects them then!!!!!

Yup sunday times ... read  it , in fact there  was a movie ( not mainstream ) about this  sort of thing in Ireland .. it  revolved around the  children taken away from  young mothers out of wedlock ..  that there  may have been  rape or incest  involved  was not the issue ,, the " rules " had been broken  the girl was immediately at fault .. shows what happens when  one has thoecratic rule .. same as  in the countries  where our brothers that wear the tea towels on their heads ..  same shit occurs ...

Did anyone ever have the catholic priest in Oranjemund be over friendly to them?  This topic jogged a memory of a catholic priest in Oranjemund become over suggestive with me.  I managed to run like hell and never went back again.  I am sure that if he did it to me that he must have done it to others. 

I was and am not even catholic but friends of mine were and they were busy with some form of classes next to the catholic church.  The one accross the road from the School.

Dunja .. the fine  line ,, where  was the focus of the over friendliness ??   theres lots of good  caring clergy out there as well ..   we all had our moments .. over friendly teachers   etc .. fortunately for me my  guardian angels were there for me  and yes gave me strength  to  publicly berate them .. much to  my  detriment  .. I was  marked  and yes victimised  ...   the crux of this  topic is blind faith  and the  horrors of a theocratic state or Government  and the abuses that can and will occur under this situation ...
For the rest as  Kaye  pointed out ..  the wheel comes around ..

To add ,,, its all about  humanity learning from the mistakes of the past ... those were mistakes ..  awful tragic ones , sadly  so accepted  largely by  the general populace  like so many  atrocities . ,, brushed under the  rug ..  those  in  rome or  wherever  will have to answer  to if not in this life  in the  thereafter ..  the difference is what we can make .. to make sure this shit never happens again ..   be ever vigilant  and  yes today we all have a voice .. use it ..

Dunja I have also heard a lot about the priest in O'mund. I wont mention his name here.
As a catholic I had quite a bit to do with him but never experienced anything myself.
I must add even though I'm catholic it doesn't mean I condone these horrific actions taken by some of our priests and the way that the church covers it up.

What I meant by over friendly was that he was very suggestive and came on very strong.  Something that makes you feel immediately uncomfortable and you wanna run like hell!!!   Lets just say that if I was catholic that I would NEVER have gone back to church after that incident!!!!

How does one tell your parents that this had happend?  Something that parents might have brush off in those years. 

So I never told anyone and just never provided him with the opportunity to be suggestive again!
