Rumbles.  They had "dwellings" on the site where the GM's house is built. The dwellings they lived in were pre-fabs and in later years the panels were available for employees to build pondoks out of.  We had one at 24/11 Ave which went to Jack Vosloo in later years.  One huge Rumbles man I remember was Koos who used to do well at muscle powered events at the mule derby. He was a very gentle man I seem to remember.  One name sticks out is a young girl by the name od Stofalina Peach.  Wonder why I remember that?

Gerda Cloete

I have great memories of the Wooden Houses. We lived in 9/11th street before we moved to Koneintjie Dorp. E 32/8th Ave. I took some pics on my last vist 2 years ago. Will dig them out.

Stephanie Van Niekerk

@ Gerda..
Uhmmmm... old age???
You lived in 11/9th ave.  Few houses away from us.
I will never forget that house. Went there (to your mom and dad) when I was in std 2 and told them I was going to marry your brother one day.
I too have a pic or two of those wooden homes.  When we moved to Oranjemund from Kolmanskop (in 50's) we lived in one till we got a cement house.

Gerda Cloete

Ok Ok ek's jammer.... The co was called John Rumbel. My dad ( Gert Cloete ) was the foreman and probably build all the houses you are living in right now. The big guy was Koos Vermaak. He worked with my dad. His wife was Susan and he had a son called Fanie.
