When did Colds become Flu?

What year  was that ? cos I  remember .. we all had to go for jabs for Hong Kong flu  in the  60"s .. it is most probably a misnomer ..  the Hong kong flu was a killer ..  only people that could not get the jab  was  allergic to eggs and  poultry , something to do with  they  used egg to incubate the weakened virus ...
