I found the name welded inside an alluminium trailer tanker that had been repaired. The buffer plates inside had cracked and were welded up. Most likely the welder / boilermaker who did the repair left his tag there too...

Its a little thing Boilermakers did in their spare time at C/F its called Graffiti now, and its around the time I was there, but the name is not registering.

There were a lot of guys working in the Boilershop/Fittingshop some whom I enjoyed their company!! and there are the guys that I would have liked to know how their lives have been.

I remember one guy, don't remember if he was Afrikaans or South African! and he gave me a book when I left the company and the inscription in the fly was "Best wishes in life".

We have moved around this planet so things tend to get lost, and the funny thing is the books title was "Robbery Under Arms" by Rolf Boldrewood  an Australian author.

So if this guy remembers this and has access to this forum drop me an email...............................................................Frank

I got a few snaps of the said tank & "Grafitti". The electricians from Town Electric did the same with the geysers when replacing an element or when installing a new kiosk.
From pic2 it appears to have been mounted on a semi-trailor of sorts.
Pic5 show the F Bosman inscription of 1968... but on closer inspection... I find the inscription in pic6... "Goy 14-4-66"
The disused tank is at Bogenfels now amongst their scrap. I don't know offhand whethe it was used during recent operations or from the exploration days.

Two guys I remember were "Eddie Watson" and "Henie Canarda" (Might not be the right spelling) they were in the welding bay and both involved with the fishing club.

Looking at the photos they are aluminum tanks and I can not remember  anyone doing that procedure Its 40 years ago so could be wrong, but the two guys I mentioned they would know him.

Another thought about this guy, Pam Spackmans husband  would have worked with Eddie and Henie.................maybe he could throw some light on the subject.................................Frank.

My dad used to weld his initials whenever he finished a big job... 3_8_14 must have been a boilermaker thing

My dad would put the date on every thing he finished. The date in the cement of the pondock he built at E15/11 is still there. Kinda gave me a fuzzy feeling when Alfred showed me the photo, as he is no longer with us.
