Hi Alfred,

You right Patrick O Brian was a Brother at CBC and then moved on to Parklands, I think his youngest sister became a nun?

Georg j, never mind when you attended primary school, I wonder how many children were in OPS when Doc venter and Zandhuis were around? (Zandhuis arrived in Omund when I was in Std 4) many, many moons ago!

Bro O Brian was my teacher at CBC, pretty cool having an Oranjemunder as your class teacher..... He left the priesthood and got married eventually, turned up at Spar about 8  years ago with the family on a quick tour back to his hometown, In fact a mate of mine in CPT should have his tel number. I;ll try get hold of it and give him the site.....

Debby   you   said  the  one pic  was adorable ..  I reveal the alter  ego ..  found  this  pic   taken  by  uncle  Sandy Laughlin    ..  memory  came back  .. must have been  all  of  3 - 4 years old ..  check  I  was still very  porky .. (weighed  in  at  10 1/2   pounds  at  birth )   My mom  took  me  there  to  have   pictures  taken ..  I  wanted  nothing of  this   and kicked up  a  fuss   .. Auntie  Jean  tried  to    persuade  me   had  me  in  her  arms ..  I  remember  giving  her  a  slap ..  got  it straight  back  and  told  to  behave  myself  ( the joy  of the  extended  family  of  aunts  and  uncles   to  put  you on  the    straight  and  narrow  as well ) ....  everything  was  tried  but  I  remained  sulky .. so  Aunty  Jean   very  practically  said "  just  take  the  picture  and  keep  it  to show  him   in  the future   how   horrible one  can look  when  miserable  "  so  there  was  me  sulky   ,  Noddy  and  any  other toys  thrust  in  my  arms  and  picture  taken ....  still have  the  pic  and  therfore  always  try  to  keep  a  smile on  my  face and not be the   horrid  child ...........

@ Mike  yes  Noddy on  the  right  .. some  sort of  a  Teddy  thing in  the  middle  and  a  doll  .. all  taken  from   Beths  room ..  but  yes  we  wonder  nowadays   what  effect  the doll  had  on  me  hey ??   or  was  it  Noddy ??  ask  the loony  left  seeing  as  they banned  Noddy ...

Dear  Dianna  we  would  have  been  too  brain  damaged  to  have children  after having   been  mistaken  for the  coconut  shy  at  that  mule  derby   ,,  think  it was  pure luck   we  did  not  get  lobbed ..   ha  ha ..

Some photographs from 1950s and 60s.

1. Left to right: Taken in Swakopmund at my gran's place in 1957, three of the Opperman children - Cathy, myself and Liz (Gary born later that year).

2. Taken in Oranjemund in +/- 1967 - Cathy, myself (did not call me Spiderman for nothing), Gary and a friend Andre Terblanche (stayed next to the Oliviers in the house that the Brownlesses later stayed in)

Thats all folks have a good laugh, but how about some of you childhood photographs??

Come on please keep posting and talk about the memories of yester year - it is all history of Oranjemund and good to pass on to future generations.

This idle chatter is getting boring!!

Viva to posting of photographs and yester year memories!! Viva! Viva!
