I've been trying the whole week to scan old Newsletters into pdf format.... wanting them to come in under 5 megs each, but cannot get it right to have them at such a size and be legible..... I am using nitropdf with a cannon 4400f scanner, if any of you out there know more about scanning pdf documents, please let me know what scanning software you are using and what specs.....

@Mike

I use a Xerox M15 scanner/printer to scan photos/documents and 'Visage eXPert PDF' to convert into pdf format. My files range from 100kb to 3 meg normally.

I regularly convert school reports (4 pages) for emailing into pdf and they are in the 200-300kb size range.

Having said that, I have never scanned an old newsletter so I don't know if Visage would help with the file size.

What size are your files normally?

And what dpi are you scanning at?

I take it that these scans are for the OMD site.

Hi Gregg, Yes for the Omund site, I have buckets of Newsletters to scan, but I need them under 5 megs, Scanning at 200Dpi, Greyscale..... using scangear for Cannon, still not getting the right sizes...between 6 and 9 megs, after cropping.....

I will get me a copy of Visage and see what it can do....

Thanks , will get back to you....

Visage is used mainly as a printer driver device... so, you need to set your scanner in such a way that it scans to your PC and then 'prints' to the Visage interface.

You should be able to get it from (If still available that is)
http://software.techrepublic.com.com/abstract.aspx?docid=890411
but you need to sign up as a member with techrepublic (free) and free Registration with Visagesoft is also required. The .com.com part of the address is correct btw and not a typing error.

There are a number of versions floating around that are mainly commercial or shareware. The version I use is version 3 Pro which came on a PC magazine DVD.

Hope this helps.

PS I scan my documents at 150dpi greyscale.

I just had a look on Techrepublic... version of Visage not same as the copy I have (I have Pro version 3, registered, which is a 12meg zip file). The version on Techrepublic is about 8meg and seems as if its not the Pro version. Still worth a try tho'.
