I remember my  Mom  mentioning those parrafin stoves ,,, if the wick was not trimmed properly  and  you lit and walked away without realisising  one would come back to kitchen full  of  black sooty  wisps floating around ... Uuugh ...

Each decade was great, depending on your age and need at the time.  But being a teenager and then a young, salary earning being, I loved the 70's.  Teenage parties with live, well known groups, sessions with Bad Apple, olde Pub nights, and many others. Party, party and more party.

Now?  Still great.

@Frank: I left Omund in '67 so our paths just failed to cross. As for the Welsh family the only Taffy I knew was Don Creedy, a very competent artisan and amiable guy whom I had the pleasure of knowing during my time at Mittag.
Looking back at the posts in this thread one thing is clear, each person has their favourite decade but everybody agreed on one thing: Oranjemund was indeed a lekker plek to be, and particularly if you were growing up there.
However, in later years when historians look back they will wonder why it isn't called Alexanderton. considering what Michael has achieved in putting the old place firmly on the cyber map.

Hello Bob!.. yes like the Nike's advert .......'Just Do It'...there again it takes someone to actually put it together, and Mr Michael Alexander with some help from others did just that!  I say that because behind every successful venture there are always helpers. Been around computers since the kids were kids (still know nothing) and the development of forums, blogs, webs, face books, twitters, 'etc' are the results of ordinary people trying out new things. Since the Internet was born its revolutionised are understanding of information and communicating. I enjoy this forum and the interaction with it I visit it most days (I am retired :)) so I have the time...... Bob! you like myself have seen many changes in our lifetime, most of the kids here on this forum were brought up with computers and they will see more amazing things in the near future. My youngest son Michael and his partner Melissa are in Las Vegas at the moment and I was able to phone his hotel and speak to them all through the computer, at the cost of a loaf of bread, bloody amazing.

Bob you say you left in 67 so are paths never crossed, now if we had have met in those days would we have envisaged being able to interact like this. .....................So yes a big thanks to Mr Michael Alexander and this forum Oranjemund Online......................Frank.
