Remember all the different busses and routes they took, how many of you would have to run and get to the bus stop before the bus got there, otherwise he would not stop for you.... and how many of you caught the wrong bus and instead of going to school , landed up at checkpoint!

How many a bored afternoon was spent, changing busses just to drive around the town for the whole afternoon, kinda like riding the tube, except above ground and in the desert!

Anyone out there have perhaps have an image map of those routes? I remember at the Bus stop by the Youth CLub, there was a huge map on the wall with colour coded routes on it....

Ah, son in law, look no further. I have an "Information For Residents" booklet about the different clubs, private enterprises and other various items about living in Oranjemund. At the back of the booklet, there are maps of the shift bus route, school bus routes and the service bus route, as well as an out of bounds map.
This booklet is dated October 1987 so I would imagine there must be copies at the museum. The original was compiled by the Public Relations Dept, so I hope this is of some help. Do you want it sent up with Michele's parcel....?????

Remember the grey buss with the door in the middle (opened and closed with air) had lurge gutters down the sides when it rained the collected water would rush and squirt out the front when the driver applied brakes. I last saw it behind Town Garage in the scrap yard maybe this buss survived from Goerge Snr's days?

I think SA Metal have taken it solid steel worth a lot for the scrap merchant

Yes seats where red, by the door was couple of stairs into the buss and there was a single seat in the front left neat to the driver or could be right side not sure if this buss could of been left hand drive?

Michael Alexander

The said bus was indeed a left hand drive vehicle, it was later dumped in all it's former glory, red seats and all, in the scrapyard behind town garage, where , we as Teenagers would hang out in...... potato schnapps and all.....
