As kids, it was pretty cool to sneak into the Rec Club main hall via the library doors, take your socks off and "ski" all over the floor, kinda like ice skating, desert style!

The other nice thing was all the various passages and rooms in the rec club, always sneaking around there, always getting chased out!   ;D

believe it or not Mike, it wasn't only a kid activity that.  i remember us doing that at the jols at the rec club in my 20's - except it wasn't in socks - it was with toilet paper wrapped around our feet - amazing the ideas that come up in a thoroughly trashed brain  :D

as kids though, after being at the pool all day , we'd sneak in to the rec club and use our towels to pull each other along on the freshly polished floors - of course there was always someone who thought it funny to let go of the towel while u going at full force and crash through whatever's in your way - be it tables, chairs, etc.

is the glitter ball (so disco 70's) still up in the rec club?

Mirror balls gone, I remember the towel pulling on the floor......  :D Don'nt laugh, but I have a small mirror ball, robot lights, Strobe light and Ultraviolet lights up in my Dining room, just in case I feel nostalgic for the 80's.... Only used them once and that was for my 37th BP..........

When my girls have a sleepover here with their friends, I get to put all the lights on whilst they dance to Shakira.... in the back of my mind I drift back to the 80's , Sigh! to be a DJ......

I often wonder if it would have been easier having boys, not so manipulative.......  ???

Mike,

girls know how to tug on the heart strings! They especially know how to get to their Daddy! Its in the way they look at you when they ask you for something. You simply cant resist. just melt away. My oldest is studying in Pretoria and she even manages it in cyberspace and over the phone. So its never ending. My Dad was the only man in the house. Imagine, 4 daughters and my Mom. Poor soul! I to have 2 girls, I know exactly how you feel.  Saw your fam pic. your girls are gorgeous by the way.

Talking about the dancing that goes on in our house, how many of you in Southern Africa have seen the latest Nando's advert - where everyone is doing the "Tweet Tweet" dance, advertising the Kingsley Holgate meal?

When the advert comes on our girls always jump up and join in the dance - I wonder how many other kids in southern africa there are that are all doing the "Tweet Tweet" dance at the same time!

sad to hear the glitter ball's gone - was a landmark of the rec club.  nothing like the age of disco tho hey Mike. at least music had a decent rhythm to it back then, nowdays with all the rap crap, it's the same monotonous doof doof.  don't worry, you not the only one stuck back in time - something most people are but very few admit to.  i love my 70's music and no-one's gonna convince me otherwise. sadly that's the reason i don't really go out anymore - no clubs around that play my music - so nothing wrong with turning your own house into a club of your choice.  at least you can throw your name away in private and not have any comebacks ;)
