Mike Voden (RIP)

I was trying to think of the names of the polony makers who worked at the Abattoir during the early eighties, before the polony making section went to the Central Kitchen. If I remember correctly, one was called Heinz.

Can anyone remember who they are

Wasn't mr Leube  one of the Fleischmeisters  in the 70's  to 80's .. I also recall  Mr Huntley  also possibly being involved in the polony and salami making ,,,   on our tour as  first year appies  , he took us around  the abbotoir and to the smoke house ,, we all got a nice salami  as a memento of our tour ...

Hi Georg Jnr & Sandy B, having been brought up on Luncheon meat (which is similar to polony) as a youngster, the thought of eating any processed meats has not been very high on my list of to do things for many a year, so therefore do not eat any of these types of meats at all. I remember being offered slices of meats by the polony makers but I think I might have offended them by refusing their offers.

Anyway, although I've heard of the names you mention Sandy B, I don't think those are the ones I remember

Uwe Leube

Hermann Leube ('69-81), Nick Huntley ('6?-7?), Bill Groom ('70's), ? Wagner ('60's) are some of those that worked at the abattoirs. My dad was a "Fleischmeister" or master butcher and always hated making polony and being called a "polony maker".

Stan Brownless

hve asked my dad as he worked at the abbattoirs every day. Dad seems to recall Mr Leube was head of the abbattoirs and George Groom and Bill Groom and Nick Huntley Dad is going to ring George Groom to find out.

Mike please send him my regards. I am not sure if he still remembers me from 1970. My very first job as an appie was to make up the electrical connection leads between the Mercedes mechanical horses and their trailers.
