Received the following interesting email from Anne-Marie, perhaps some of you really really old timers might remember then name?

"Somebody recently e-mailed me photos of the wind storm in Oranjemund and this sparked some memories. My father , Henry Ralph Petersen used to work at the mines in Oranjemund during 1945 to 1957. He loved Oranjemund and always told us what adventures they had. I would appreciate any feedback or just memories from somebody. I had old black and white photos which he gave me years ago, but they are in storage now. There were photographs of the group of men playing with snakes in the desert to pass time on Sunday afternoons, since there was literally nothing in Oranjemund way back then. I could also clearly remember the photos where the group got together in their best jackets to relax in a pub. There was an incident that I can also recall he told me that a black man saved his life when a "koekoepan" on a rail just ran away and the black co-worker pushed my father out of the way a second or two before the pan could run over him.

If there is anybody that can recall Henry Ralph Petersen (had blond wavy hair) date of birth: 22 February 1925, I would be very much grateful.

Kind regards

Anne-Marie de Swardt"

I remember the old photographs hanging in the main mess room, and thinking at the time 45-57 would have been a rough tough place to be and that was the late sixties.  thumper.......... image04
