Have not got the facts on this yet, but I received a phonecall informing me that a mine truck rolled on the Luderitz road and it would appear that a life was lost,

The driver that delivered Willards chips to the SPAR today, reckons the entire cab of the lorry was crushed....

Thoughts and prayers to the family....

What was the  condition off the road  , what speed was he doing(did the truck have a speedlimiter  ) , was he   being  escourted(concentrate silo) , A few off the  unanswered questions .

The mine has currently stopped all production since the accident.... I see there was a management type meeting in the Rec Club hall on Saturday and again this morning....

Yes, Namdeb must re assess all of the safety aspects but there is far too much on risk assessments etc, so much so that most employees are getting too complacement with all of the rules and regulations. What they must do is reduce the paperwork and bring back commom sense. This would reduce the number of accidents and make the individual more alert and aware of those around him.

Try it, it WILL work

Swimming in the school pool has just been stopped, as the mine now wants to do a safety audit....
the rubbish truck never came around to SPAr TODAY TO pick up the rubbish, as it was sent to town garage for a safety check.....

Some people would refer to this as a knee jerk reaction......

Well put  Mike ,,  somehow  some  folk seem to think that if all the  forms and the little blocks are checked then  things are safe ,, not so ,   what about the attitude of the  workforce  , management etc ?? COMMON SENSE  IS  THE  CORRECT  ANSWER //
To see  sometimes  requires that you  first believe .

We came    out  the  mine   with quantum  mini buses  this   afternoon  as all the  big busses are   still at Uubvlei   for  safety  check . How   many   will pass the   check ?

Another way of looking at this Safety issue is to stop the paper route and take the physical route, in other words, reduce the files etc and be more proactive in action

Mmmm, that's why Polla had to do all the checks on the Namdeb vehicles.  Makes sence now.

My condolence's to the drivers family, and reading Stevie's post of the speed the vehicle was traveling the condition of the road puts me in mind of are roads here in Queensland. The maximum speed is 110klms down to 100kls then 80klms then there are suburb street speed limit 60kls. The roads we have here are quite good if you live in the bigger city's, but with recent floods they have made some of our major roads quite dangerous, pot holes are the most serious hazard although the local councils try to attend to these as quickly as they can. The response of the drivers seems to be throwing caution to the wind, and as Mike Voden  mentioned common sense should prevail This would reduce the number of accidents and make the individual more alert and aware of those around him. Maybe the older you get the faster the world seems to be and in the case of driving its only going to get worse.
