If you are planning to get a new HD, don't buy Seagate, they suck in a big way,

My 2TB seagate has been running for 5 months and is now reporting errors and shuts down in the middle of operations....  I received 2 x 1.5tb Seagate drives yesterday.... and both of them fialed to even install ..... tested them with Seagate 's diagnostic tools.... errors on all tests...

I am now awaiting my 2TB Samsung drive.....

Don't know what drive I have, but have been operating with Windows XP.  Last week  -  MS Security warning in the middle of everything  -  report on screen says I have been hacked and have 27 trojans wrecking my system.  Well - no operations possible in any way, so call the IT ghuru's.  Says it's a crash.  Recover all my data on a copy hd, format my hd, reload all my data and says all is fine. Says that their 'detective program' picked up no virus on my system what so ever. Switch on my computer and what do I find????   the ghurus have decided that Windows Vista is a better option than Windows 7 .............

What do you clever blokes think about Vista?  In two days I have experienced shutdowns in the middle of operations, I have to start up Outlook in safe mode, compatibility with some of my analysis programmes is up to 'bollie'  ....   Don't know if I am right, but has Vista not been discontiued by MS????

I suspect it's all the pirate-ware on the HD!!!  affe-red

This 'Clever Bloke' doesn't like Vista at all...

Add Vista to the 'It Sucks' List!

I'm with Gregg on this one.....

VISTA SUCKS BIGGER THAN SEAGATE DRIVES!!!

Vista was a rushed Operating System, if you wanna upgrade from XP, then jump over the VISTA and go for Windows 7

My thoughts too, but alas ...  I am stuck with Vista (that's what the ghuru's say)!!  Hopefully someone will wake up and smell that the porridge has burned !!

Not allowed to add/remove any software or hardware for that matter on my work compy ---  (I 'rent' it from the company, and they consider it their property for a period of up to 3 yrs.  After that I have the option to buy it form the company for a minimum amount, but then they remove/delete all their software and programs from it.)

On my own compy (that I do not use in office where I am most the time) I have Windows XP and I am quite happy with it - it is compatible with all my programs and has never given me problems.

Well, in my previous post I have explained what my experience this far with VISTA has been  -  I will never reccomend it to anyone and will never purchase it for myself.  I do not know how the company has appointed a Chief IT 'ghuru' (more like idiot) who has the sense of a donkey who thinks VISTA is a better option than Windows 7.  I do not know how this person can logically think that I can operate my business with the mega capacity of 200MB usage on my 3G card per month (hello, I do analysis stuff, I download info from the internet, I access appliccable websites that contain text as well as graphics that has to download  -  I can carry on and on).  When I exceed my usage by 200 MB this idot sends me a bill of R940   -  sent it straight back and said that they have to get someone to do maths, because I can purchase 2G per month for that amount, so the one who allocotes the contracts for the 3G cards has to be fired, because for sure they are not doing their homework propper.  Still waiting for an answer on that one.  Yep, sometimes you have to deal with funny things on flat paper ..........

I have just plugged in my new 2TB samsung drive, It lasted an hour then failed....

So perhaps the problem after all is not the drives, maybe the Power supply to SATA drives, or something to do with the board...

Anyone got any ideas?

Is it dead or just giving errors....
Did you install windows on it or is it just for storage.. ?

What model is the drive...

I see some not so old Samsung 2tb drives have a firmware issue, can be upgraded..

Lots of stories about 2tb drive failures on the net, hard to make sense of it all.  sorriso2

I see motherboards have a ACHI and IDE mode for the sata connectors... try playing with that...
Might need a clean windows install to, might not work with XP.
Could stop IDE DVD drives from working to...

Best read up on it from Google....

Good Luck....
