Amazing how they thrive and multiply.  What do they actually feed on - just scraps from the dumps?  Maybe the odd gemsbok dying in their range.  I know near the sea they scavange on dead seals, birds, eggs etc.  They sometimes got so brave and then actually came into town and even into the yards when the gates were left open.

Has someone ever done a study on the jackall in the Oranjemund vicinity - there was a documentary on 50/50 some time ago about 2 British scientists who studied them near Luderitz.

you know ladies with regards to our "manly habits" we men admit to it , yes we do all them things , but you see this is why men are so easy to be around and mostly calm folk... to explain: i have never heard of a women admitting to doing any of those things in fact a women ( according to women) dont. and this is why us males figure females are cranky .......You have got to let go
of course i am in shape...i'm round

Dalene Steenkamp (Coetzee)

Darryl, ai toggie, let me try to explain:  you have manly habbits, because hopefully you are men!  All of you also have that hidden away very small feminine side to you that you don't like to show (die ou traantjie wegpink as iets die hartsnare roer).   ;) That's why we lady-folk don't openly admit to doing the manly habbits things, 'cause we are ladies - although we do do the manly habbits things and sometimes even better than you men!  :D   See, you figure we are cranky........  we only figure you are men.  If we let it go, then you will have nothing to whine about and who're you gonna call cranky then?  No, we will not let go, we will just accept and tollerate it (sometimes, not always) for we need something to make us feel cranky sometimes, seeing we are such happy folk mostly. ;D

(Still want to say  -  so glad to see you're ROUND and not SQUARE  -  he he he)   ;D ;D

I think you would enjoy the book just recently published by Johan Symmington  -  Op die Vrou af.  A lot of short text stories taken from his montly contributions in the Sarie or Rooi Rose.  Excellent!  Sort of explanations about women from the viewpoint of men who cannot explain anything women , and however they try to compromise - a man can never win i.e.  -  the woman asking if she should wear black or red  -  man says black  -  woman retaliates by something like if the man is implying that she looks fat or old in red.  Loads of other funny stuff like that  -  why women stay in the fitting rooms for half an hour when trying on a new bikini - then walks out the shop without buying it.

The alternative to not being ladies is being a ladette, they have a reality show in the UK, Ladette to Lady
Girls who belch and fart, drink beer and get into fights being taught how to hold it in............

Yes, and if we are ladette's, what will they call us then instead of cranky...........  maybe something like crank-shafty?

Thanks, Alfred.  You are a real gem.

Look at this one from my recent camping trip --  near the hammer is the little mouse --  look how well he blends in with the environment  -  nearly impossible to spot him ( behind the hammer you must search for the two little glowing eyes, then you will make out the mouse.  Came around each day to collect some crumbs etc.  Just had to snap him, but he was a shy thing.
