Jan and Kitty van Avenzaath, Chris and Christa Coetzee, Frans and Marie Reidl, Les de Lange (found Bev a few years ago), Keith Ager, Tim and Lynette Stenhouse - last heard of in Noosa, Bri Carretoni, Sylvia Weidemann - more will come to mind when Lawrence stops watching the rugby! We also found Dieter Heiser but may have lost him since!  Gabi Hodge surfaces now and again.  Bern and Jen Commerford are in Australia as well and we had a visit from their son Shane recently with his lovely wife and two children.  Seen from this site that Sue and Gerald Hodgson are still in Orangemund - amazing stuff.

I have the van Avezaath family's address somewhere, will just have to dig for it, but will put it on site for you.  Mike, Jan Bas' brother's name was Edwin.  The sister was Brigitta.

Success already - thanks for that Charmain.

Dieter Heiser

Hi Sylvia,
Have recived your e-mail. How are you both keeping?
We have been in Cape Town since May 1984.
The last I heard from Keith Ager , he was in Australia completing a yacht that he was fitting out and then he and Bev were going to sail around the world.
Tim Stenhouse and Lynett are in New Zeland as far as I know, but will find out from Tjeert Greveling who has contact with them.
If you find out Jan an Avenzaath contact details please pass them on to me as well

Keep in touch.

Are you on facebook?

Have a look there are a host of photos to view.

Hi there!

Facebook - MySpace - good grief, will have to get our teenage daughter to help with that (which is precisely the reason we had her I suppose).

We are very well.  Working too damn hard though - both of us. We have our own businesses so find it hard to stop and take a breath.

Be nice to find Keith (boat building - that's bizarre?).  Oranjemunders - Kaye and Alan McFarlane did actually sail from England back to New Zealand.  Their daughter Leith was only a little tot.  There's a story : she left Namibia and then South Africa as well with NO PAPERS!  Kaye had to register her birth in London.  It was a nightmare.

When we left Oranjemund in 1983 we were headed for Queensland from Perth, but first to New South Wales to Jack Stenhouse in Camden who thought we may like it there.  Trish and Leon Tamblyn had just had an awful experience in the Eastern States and had moved to Perth - Bern and Jen Commerford were also already here - they are now in Brisbane and Shane is just recently back here in Perth.  Looringh van Beeck's were on their way to Australia after us and they did end up in the Eastern States.  Tienne just loved Sydney but they eventually settled in Melbourne.  Tienne has visited us in Perth but Jan Piet told us Perth was a DUST BOWL.  He didn't like WA at all!  Steve McKay come to think of it now is missing as well!  Last seen alternately curled up on a carpet and then staggering off barffing after he and Lawrence were both wiped out with food poisoning at a Chinese Restaurant!

Renee and Justin our twins are both married.  Renee has been married for fifteen years now and has three boys.  Justin married only last year and his Japanese wife informed us recently that we will have one grandchild from them in June 2009. (She is very organised!)  Renee lives just two kilometres from us in the hills east of Perth and Justin lives in Alice Springs.

Keep in touch and add Steve McKay to the "wanted list."

Sylvia.

P.S. Could someone still living in Oranjemund pease send me a domestic? I do miss Titus terribly. :)

Michael Alexander

Must the domestic come with his own Bike?

;)

The days of male domestics ended with independence....there are maids here, but most are Nama maids from the Keetmanshoop area....

;D

I think a lot of the old timers, even us still living here, long for a "Tate"

What no Tate?

That's it the reunion is off.

My dad, jock came to sit with me in the shop the other day, this Ovambo walks past looks at my dad, says to me in Afrikaans, O! Tate Jock, my broer, Jaffe , hy se as ek vir jou sien, ek moet vir jou die groete stuur....My dad asks me to translate, asking who the guy is on about, turnsout this chap is the brother to a chap called Jaffe that was my parents first domestic when they came here in 72, Peter mcamanus fired the guy for arguing with my mom one day whilst my dad was out. Anyhow this domestic became a doctor overseas, so in the end if he was'nt fired he would more than likely still be working on the mine today... for those of you that might remember he was also the brother to TOMMY , the barman at casey's...

This Joyner chap watching the rugby........ Lawrence.......... he wasn't a plumber in Oranjemund by any chance was he? It's just that you mention my old workmate from the plumber's shop Gerald Hodgson?

I can vaguely remember a big tall chap by the name of Lawrence......... he was a plumber and he had an inseparable sidekick with a straggly beard......... might have been Peter but I'm not too sure ........ both real good blokes anyway...........  I somehow have a hunch they were both Kiwis...... but; I can remember the bearded one bringing photos to my donga.........of him up the bush in Rhodesia in battle fatigues...... and Ian Smith was alongside him too in a photo shoot?

If it is the same Lawrence Joyner......... circa that time in Hennie Van Tonder's workshop were Nick Van Niekerk supervising us load of plumbing contractors such as Ian Rowley........... Kennie Jones from Jo'burg and Devon. ......... Ralph from down-under ........... John the rent-a-gob from down-under too (I can remember him and Lawrence not getting on?) Harry the Cockney spiv rip-off merchant who sold Gerald Hodgson a pair of matching dueling pistols......... that got lost in transit? Sandy McSomething or other? ......... Rudi the Swiss Army Knife plumber....... Little Paul from Blackpool.......... Ian Magregor McClennan. ......... Roy Orbison (thanks Debbie ......... never knew his real name was William Turnbill until I got your email today?) My old mucker Stanley Brownless......... Jimmy McRipley ........... Gerald......... Dougie Wilson......... Abe Lindhurst?

That's about all I can remember.............. the craic was good in those days. If it is the same Lawrence Joyner......... say G'uday to him..... it is a small world.
An' the silent night will shatter
From the sounds inside my mind
For I'm one too many mornings
And a thousand miles behind

I Thought that I will let you know a bit more about Keith And Bev,late last year I was doing a bit of shopping in our local supermarket here in Hauraki,Auckland, New Zealand, and there was a short woman in front of me when she turned round I said Bev,and she recognised me strait away,so we held the shopping que up for a while while we caught up on some gos,Keith was waiting in the car for here so we all had a good chat,They told me that they were living on a boat @Bays water marina here in Auckland and that they were on a sailing trip a few months before we bumped into each in the shop and they mentioned that they ran the yacht aground close to Samoa and had to be rescued by the coast guard they lost everything,I have not seen them around for some time now,but who knows maybe our path will cross again.
