Compare the astronaut sitting on top of an actual-sized craft he'd be flying in at some time in the future. Not too big is it?! He is practising an  emergency evacuation after a landing at sea and the aircraft carrier is nowhere to be seen.....!

Notice how small and cramped the Gemini capsules were back when they flew the Gemini missions. Imagine being strapped in one for a 5 day mission. Ewwwww! Not nice. Claustrophobia - go away.......!
