I wonder how many people have a similiar story about the cookies left out at social gatherings.
Rondebosch in the 80's - great....what with conscription and witdokke and riot police ........
the kitchen was the best place to be at parties.

Remember how people used to disappear in the middle of the night..... sometimes to never be heard of again.

I sometimes refer to a person as a Tosser, its not a word that's used that much here, but when we have had overseas visitors (UK) they have frowned on me saying that this is a bad word over there.................. image04

Mmm  actually  was going to  do moment of truth .. nah ... ingested lots of crazy stuff ,, no damage .. always remebered my Moms  threat .. ' I'm gonna  knock 10 colours of shit  out of you " despite my misadventures  always remebered her voice  and the basic values  she instilled ..
I will recall the time she found dope in my  high school blazer pocket .. she  immediately phoned PPJ Kruger .. told him to lock me up till I revealed  the  peddler .. took lots of explaining to tell her these folk weere just there on the street in CT ... nearly saw the 10 colours .. promised to  behave  and promtly went off to misbehave again .. that was the joy of being a  teenager ..

Ha.... mom's words....

"There's plenty of water in the tap" ..... reply to the times  we winged that we are thirsty..

" Do you think I'm made of money?" ... reply to the times we asked for money....

" Do you think there's money growing on the tree in the backgarden?" ... same as above....

Not a very well known one to everyone, but it was an expression used in Namaqualand in Springbok (those who went to school there might remember it)  -  I heard someone using it again the other day and had to laugh, because it has been so many years since I heard it :  sorry folks, I have to write it in Afrikaans, else it loses the meaning, but I will explain ~

Dis nou vir jou 'n be-gaailike ding
or
Jy's nou be-gaailik

the word be-gaailik is not even in any dictionary, but the meaning of it is 'stupid' or 'simple' ....   only the uniqueness of the Namaqualand type of Afrikaans that can create a word like that !

Life becomes harder for us when we live for others, but it also becomes richer and happier. Friendship is a sheltering tree.

To be clever enough to get a great deal of money, one must be stupid enough to want it.

Those who bring sunshine to the lives of other cannot keep it from themselves.
