Hi all,
Those boarding school days ....... Ah yes, the company bus would pick you up at your local bus stop closest to your home, and then ferry you off to the airport. There were mixed emotions I recall, as it was goodbye to your loved ones, a little apprehension and adventure all thrown into one. For me personally, it was even more daunting, as I had never experienced flight before. In those days, the company used to charter a Hercules cargo plane. I remember it well. There were no windows, and all the cables and rods that operated the tail and wing flaps were all visible. I used to suffer severe sinus headaches when coming into land. All in all though, it was great fun, especially the trips back home. Wouldn't trade these memories in for the world. The plane was later upgraded to a Convair.

For the record, I went to SACS. It was great to have fellow O/munders in boarding school with you, as you all stuck together like a large family. Some of these guys were Leigh McBride, Gary Ebstein, Mel Ebstein, Steven Hucker, Steven Hodgson, Tony Vogel, John Vogel, to name a few. Some great memories were forged during these boarding school days, and I guess these are the occasions that have made us into who we are today.

For all of us that went to school in the eastern cape you guys have to admit even though we never got to leave like all the rest on long weekends ..... We had the best trips home . Skyways bar in cape town airport

Only problem with Skyways bar, is that a lot of you EP boys did'nt hear your boarding calls and missed your connectiong flight to East London... HEy PAul?

All part of the plan., my buddies were supposed to miss the flight with me but I guess I was the only one with the balls in the end... at least I got to see that your hostel didn't have a jacuzzi nor escalators

You have to understand it is really noisy in the skyways bar and it could easily happen to anyone... Although somehow it did only happen to one person..... mmmm.... ?

Look people, it was an honest mistake (sort of) if you all can remember how turbulent the charter flight into Cape Town was that day, we seemed to fly out over the ocean for an hour to avoid that storm!!! Anyhoo I had already geared myself up with the exitement that we might miss our conecting flights, and when the air hostess took all our details as well, we were set for a night in CT. Imagine the dissapointment when we found out the SAA connecting flight had also been delayed... so just went along with the original strategy...

Man I still remember when I phoned my dad... about 30 mins after the plane to East London had just taken off... all I could hear in the background was my mom saying: "What do you mean its Paul, when did they put telephones on the planes!!!!! He did what !!!!"  thank god I was flying away from home and not back ...

It seems nobody in here went to SPringbok.....  ??? , When I failed Std 9 due to all the thinners i had sniffed that year, my father first threatened to pull me out of school and send me to the border! Yawn! that did'nt scare me, then he clicked and threatened to send me to Springbok, hell I jumped into action and begged for mercy, give me one more chance, Dad!.... and thats how come I went back to CBC and passed the 2nd time around.....

I know some guys who went to Springbok and I know some guys who went to the border. You were right to be frightened! They would have loved a pretty, english-speaking lad like you at Springbok...
