Mike Voden (RIP)

Simon, please don't mention the snoring, what a pleasure to be back in my own snore free house. Even Kelvin was complaining about his Daddy's loud snores.............

Funny how you would naturally assume that this sound would eminate from me and not that beautiful daughter of yours?

Everyone knows that Scottish folk don't snore, it would frighten away the spiders.....

To cure snoring:
1. Make a small pocket between the shoulder blades of whatever sleepwear is used, Insert a pingpong or golf ball in the pocket. This prevents sleeping on the back which is the main cause of snoring.
2. Seal the lips with a strip of paper surgical tape just before going to bed. Not as drastic as it sounds, the strip is easily peeled off when necessary.
3. Set up an early morning and evening routine of sinus irrigation, a five minute procedure which cleans the sinuses and ensures clear nasal passages for easy breathing.

Snoring is health-damaging in terms of loss of sleep and reduction of oxygen (you wake up feeling tired and woozy). It also increases the rate of dental caries. This last is aggravated by the dryness of the mouth during snoring which reduces the saliva that normally shields the teeth and gums from acids and bacteria.

A one-shot solution to the snoring problem is to have your dentist make a jaw splint. This is a device inserted in the mouth at night which pulls the lower jaw forward and holds it there, decisively preventing snoring. It's effective but pricey.
