Well the folk living in our town no longer care about their own pets and the local Wildlife, got this email this morning and feel it is important to post it here...

"When will it be realised that there is a cycle being initiated here.  Domesticated animals start taking down wild animals and they will continue to do so.  People leave their gates open in town because they do not want their dogs to faeces in their yard;  because they do not want to feed their dogs; because they are too lazy to close their gates on their way to work.

At night they do not check that their pets are back in their yard;  they again do not feed their animals;  do not give them the attention required.

For some reason there is this thought that by neutering or spaying your animal you are taking away their manliness when in fact you will be:

Promoting their life, preventing additional expenses, preventing unwanted litters.

Are we waiting for a child to be bitten??

This after seeing earlier in the week how a herd of young ones gathered at OPS.

By far it is not the dogs f ault – it is the human who is at fault!

They should be taking responsibility for what is in their care.

Not only do they have pets in their care but also nature on their doorstep

which should be taken care of for generations to come."

Where is nature conservation?

In all other towns that I lived in, it was compulsory to have a license "which the dog must wear at all times" for your dogs and cats. Even bicycles had to be tagged. Also, NO DOMESTIC ANIMALS WAS ALLOWED BEYOND THE OWNERS FENCE and if so, you got a whopper of a fine. Surely if we can install alcohol testers at Check-Point to enforce safety, we can find a solution around this one. Be it from the Mine Management side or the Municipality Authority. Like Mike A said.....when will a child be bitten....don't even what to think about that.

My 2 bob on this subject...

I think that the local council should pass a bylaw that all dogs should have a license , say for N$20 a year, they get a metal tag and if they are found on the street and not claimed after seven days, destroyed.

Failing that, if collected by the owner, a fine of N$ 100.00

They did try that the kennels would contact the owners and there was a kennel boarding fee they would not pay and denied that the dog was there's so alas they where put down

I see that a local resident submitted the following photo to the Republikein Newspaper,

Wonder what the authorities plan to do?
