Earlier this year, one of my patients, a school girl from Bonnievale where I stay now, went on holiday to Namibia with her family. They went camping in the Southern desert, and this girl was so touched by the beauty and experience of being in "our" desert, that she wrote an Afrikaans poem about it.  She was shy to show it to me at first (her Mom showed it to me secretly at first), but with some encouragement by her teacher, she also entered the poem in a competition in McGregor recently and won the Afrikaans Teenage section (and an i-pad)!!!

I had to scan and save it as a photo, since the structuring of the words form part of the poem.

Feel free to share this, maybe if you know the Afrikaans teacher in Oranjemund?  But please give her recognition if used in any publication.
