take the 2,5lt jug and fill with milk, then pour a quarter of it into the 1,5lt jug and drink then fill the 1,5lt and bob's your uncle, see there you go the 1,5lt jug had 2lt's in it, it's just that 0,5lt was drunk befor it was filled up again which makes it 2lt in total.

why didn't they just drink out the containers the milk came in in the first place
