Mike
I remember (just!) going to the Veggie Mark with my Mum which you have under Photographs -'The Area'.  I also remember the "new" Veggie Market you have under 'The Town' being opened and the "old" Veggie Mark becoming the Scout and Girl Guides, Cubs and Brownies hut.  Are either of them still there?  The old Veggie Mark was near to The Park and behind the Methodist Church.
I also remember the Anglican Church being built and opened and the old church which was on the side of the road of the "new" Veggie Market becoming the Methodist Church.  Any changes there?

Ann , I cannot find the one by the methodist Church, Me Thinks it's gone, I did however find the old Veggie/scout Hall, which has long since been stopped, I believe th building is used by a church. The Camera Club is next to it...

Mike, the building used as the Youth club, the Eric Davis Hall was initially used for church services, the Old Veggie market, is the Timber structure at the back of this Hall, Viv Reyneke will hopefully send you PDF document from which you can extract photos of people shopping for veggies in the 60's
The "New" Veggie market is the building Between the old Cassies Bar and the existing Flowerpot, oposite Cora Olivier's old Cafe, its now being used as a Furniture Shop.

Thanks, Mike - and Clive, look foward to seeing the "old" Veggie Market piccies.  I'd obviously find difficulty finding my way around should I ever revisit!  The cafe opposite the "new! Veggie Market was "The Odde Spotte" when I was there and was a real gathering place.  I remember my Sunday treat whilst Dad was playing badminton in the Rec Club was a tickey lucky packet and a tickey cone.  If I was really good I was allowed an ice cream soda which I recall was green in colour - 10 cents.  They also did a mean banana split - but that came expensive.

I remember the veggie market, the new one, it was opposite the tea room, the desert inn. And next to the veggie market was a hall where we used to go to sunday school in the 1960's before they built the church.

Hi Mavis - After all these years.
Was the hall you mention not used as the Methodist Church where we had ballet lessons with Mrs Dalley?  The new Anglican church was built on the opposite side of the road a bit further down than the swimming pool.  The from there you could cut through to school via all the teachers' houses, and the Dutch Reformed Church was right opposite OPS?

Mavis - Poole is on the South Coast in Dorset right next to Bournemouth.  Has some of the loveliest beaches and countryside in the country (but then I'm probably biased!)  Lovely to hear from you

Was the Veggie market back in the day, only stocked with local veggies?

There was a hydroponics at one stage which did supply some of the veg. It was near to the Moth Hall, behind the new Rugby Club. There was also a farm near the Riding Club just below Swartkops where a number of veg. was grown. In the earlier days I think a lot of the veg. was brought in from "outside", don't quite know where it came from.

There was a company farm at Daberas and Hogenfels.
Lots of veggies were grown at Daberas.
