Hey, where is everybody today idontknow I'm feeling lonely :emot78: No one's writing on the forum and I'm sobored Come back pls
Hi Patricia.
What's up? Depressed? hihi
This is normel at this timne. Everybody seems out for lunch. The fun usualy starts between 12:30 and 13:00 hours CET.
Yes, I'm at work and need my daily distraction. I'm having withdrawal symptoms quickdop
Hey Patricia
It must be a great to have a Monday thats not Blue .
Well, living in a Muslim country means that my weekends fall on Fridays and Saturdays, on so the first day of my working week is Sunday. So my Sunday morning blues are now over (until next week) and I'm already thinking of tomorrow as the middle of my week ... grab
So, if you have a 5 day week, how many hours a week do you work?
May I ask who you work for and in which catogary your are specialised, or is that to personel?
Under UAE labour law, the minimum working hours per week is 48 hours (far from the 35 hours in France). I work for a satellite pay TV broadcaster called Showtime Arabia and work 40 hours a week (plus plus plus ...). In my previous job, I was working 5 and a half days a week ... really crap long hours, with a 3 hour lunch break to allow for the midday snooze of the local population! It's quite common here for people to work 6 days a week!
Sorry, I was offline for most of yesterday, as the 3rd world internet connection was down..... today, this morning I have been running around, and swimming, and then more work... afternoon time is my relax and catchup time.... I see your sister has joined us.......
I thought you were hiding due to that ORANGE team.
I thought I scared you with the challenge I set you..........
@Diana... I'm proud of my team, if one player, Falie, had'nt thrown the ball against Jano's head in front of the ref, we would have won that game.... I will always support my team....
@ Rhona, there's a challenge? Is this the diet thingy? COz, I now swim 30 lengths a day in the town pool.... 180 so far in 1 week.... and as long as Keep doing that, I can eat drink and be merry......
plus I got puricos running through my veins....invincible I tell you......

A real nest of virile Ruf´s bling1
Looks like you ladies are in for a Ruff Ride...
:emot19:
Ruf-ley spoken and if I make a Ruf count, that's including the little one's running around in Jnr's backyard + another one on the way + the big one's out of the house + all the mrs Ruf's, and all these other Ruf kids Georgswa is mentioning, my numbers add up to something near 400 ----
Real Ruf lot you are ......... add them all to the forum ---------- by far you will have a Ruf record running in here within no time.
I wonder who has been having the Ruf ride all the time ( taking the numbers into account) ?
Switch off the power in Germany, people --- they are attracted by the light and on this forum there's lots of high lights, so they're gonna come swarming in
Invasion like I said and I stick to that!
@Dalene... don't forget the dog, Ruff!

You mean virile Boy Georg has no teeth......thats a bit ruff
George Jnr - I think your dad has had it with you!
He is negotiating with Mike to donate you as the next family pet! But it seems like he has had your teeth pulled - so no more biting from you!
:emot19:
What about fleas? Does he come with his papers for his injections? I have a ruff carpet, so I don't want him trashing it,,,,,,
You gonna need a Ruf collar for him as well, Mike. Seems like the Ruf's can ge wild, so you will have to keep him on a leash.

Ah, welcome back guys e154 Mike, promise us that you will never shut this site down, unless you intend to convert those houses you plan to buy in O'mund into an asylum for ex-Oranjemunders bighug

I would have to take a RUFF guess, but I think Paula will be online again on Saturday......

A big lull all day Diana. Hope it's better today.
Sorry, for my absence, I mentioned the power outage (for repair work) on SUnday and then Yesterday was dog at the border day... things will pick up soon...... There is a core group that shares their memories and pics, then there is a group that lurks and juste reads, not a problem, the main aim of the forum was to create a database where ex Oranjemunders could stay in touch, the chatter is a by product..... which is actually still doing quite well, then off course there is alwasy gonna be people like Jnr, who do not actually work, but sit in front of the PC the whole day.... laughpoint
MIKE Your mention of core group .. I see lots of members but very little posting from the lots , I see lots of chatter , agree it has its place in keeping things rolling but would prefer to see more of the lots posting memories and pictures , further It would be so nice if people would could put a face to their profiles , this is after all not some anonymous internet dating site where people lie to each other about how they look ....
or call themselves "Spook" "Rayfan" and such like.
Come now those names are surely not on our site ??
Well maybe not exactly those......at least old Koos gave himself a name-name. When you bored Sandy take a look through our members, some strange concoctions there.
The trick, is in looking at there email address, they might have a strange nickname, but in most cases the email is a giveaway of a real name...
Yep.
But only sometimes.
thnx Georg I agree. So i'm not imagining it.
Further to this I see not much activity on site .. good to see the pic of the Jones family .. does this mean I'm going to have to now start rummaging through negatives as well to try and dig up pics and memories ?? .. dont quite know whats all there but suppose its wortha bash in the absence of effort ....
I think in General, over public holiday's the site tends to quieten down as everybody is off doing things.... I too need to get my arse in gear and get on with some updates...once an update is done, then I auto email evryone that is registered in here and then the forum gets busy again over the next few days.......gotta find those lost sheep....
Maybe the good sheperd Michael should do a father Keith thing and place an advert saying he is looking for all his stray sheep .. I finally aquired a laptop and wireless connection so I'm portable and can access and post 24rhs , my problem is I'm spending so much of my free time doing those essential jobs , lapsed projects and of course trying to get other projects on the house into motion before the cold winter hits ( and of course trying to do liesure and social ) .. so much so that I now rehired my one arm and leg man to do all the smaller painting jobs ,, Sipho is a statisitic of crime who does not want to be a victim , he was robbed and thrown off a moving train and lost left arm and right leg , gets by well on his falsies . because of his meagre disabilty grant he has his abled but lazy brother leaning on him ... as said I am employing him to do and at the same time learn painting , frustrating cos sometimes its 50 % supervision to teach a skill like cutting in and brush technique .. but I'm sure it will pay off , theres lots of the on ground preparation and fiddly work he can do .. further more he is trustworthy and once trained I can leave him to get on with it .. , and best reward is the smile on his dial when he has finished a days work and earns his money albeit as an appie at the moment .. Oops rambled off so yes me busy and distracted , but still no excuse , I suppose i should do the rummaging and sorting in little bits , then scan and hopefully some more postings of memories ..
I should think about advertising the site in a few newspapers and mags.... that might help.... on the other hand would it? we have close to 400 members here, but only about 35 access the site on a regular basis....
pls
I'm sure there are more accesing the site. They're on incognito, which means they're not active.
Maybe we should try and find out why. Maybe there'sxsomething some people find annoying. We've had several complaints already:
Too many smileys.
Not sticking to the topic.
Some don't like particular subjects. (3 word story) But why do they check in these subjects?
To much bitch-slapping...
ect.
So what do we do? idontknow
There's no real sence in changing your attitude.
Just wait till Paula climbs back online again... then the bitch slapping will start all over again.... thumper
Yep.
That girl really put life on this board...
:emot19: thumper bling1
Maybe they are just shy Jnr..................after all it took me a while to introduce myself to you guys - Best thing I ever did; kinda like having a load of penpals only better bighug e154
Yep. e154
Were you one of the incognitos?
I don't know about incognito - but I certainly used to sneak into the site under the cover of darkness and read what everyone was saying; then I'd laugh out loud and relay my own stories - all in my head - and then I'd log off again, before anyone would even know I was there...........but then one day I thought - I want to have the same fun the rest of you guys are having, and so I introduced myself - still haven't got the hang of posting a picture of myself - but here I am none the less and it's the best thing I ever did............
Good for you ... register .. post your face .. and contribute .. i am joining my dear friend Ronel Whatley for a braai tonite .. they down for easter and staying at her sisters place .. my camera batteries on charge so hopefully i can post a few faces ... dammn I always seem to somehow let both sets run down .. spoilt at work cos I just walk into It and swop out my flat batteries ........
Long discussions etc.... I'm always out here! - dont care what the rest are doing or saying - as long as I see the friends on the forum chatting away - saying what's in their hears, complaining, bragging, nagging, sagging - what ever topic - I love reading it all (sometines I do not post or chat due to circumstances), but yeah, it's sad that only about 35 people really do participate. (Hasn't it always been like that in all ways of life - the same old "oxen pulling the wagon through"?
So - you regular "oxen" - just keep pulling - you'll get your extra bale of hay in the end of the day!
If one thinks back to school days, you always had introverts and extroverts... the extroverts being the cool kids and then the squares being the introverts.... always quiet and shy... not running for the back seats in the bus... not smoking behing the moth camp.... but the net, or this forum opens all that up.... you don't have to be shy any longer...just post and be damned with it./....... By the way, I was not a cool kid at school... a real quiet chap me.... gee! HOW all that has changed..... known as a bombastic kinda guy these days..... shave
You shy.........my arse

Bombastic ? no .. its just that if you lookaround .. many of the cool kids have just faded .. they had their moment .. we get "older but indeed wiser" so its then its now our time to make our mark ???
In afrikaans they say " vroeg ryp vroeg vrot " .. ok better shut my trap now .. just got back home had a good time .. slightly dronk and off to bed I go ........
@ Georg snr .. yes you always there .. and more importantly so as a moderator .....
Ha.. Sandy is fast becoming the MIdnight Caller, posting in the wee hours of the morning after he has finished pasting the town red...... hoolahoop1
SEE NOTHING AS IMPOSSIBLE ........
Well the Braai at Lenores went well it was good to see the Whatleys again ... the pics are sort of blurry ( dont know why ) so will sort through and post later .. On the subject of seeing nothing as impossible ... my painting appie Sipho I mentioned earlier here ...today I am putting fascia boards up on the one side of garden cover , so I said to Sipho yetserday we were going to do a challenge .. painting a roof is hot work but basically easy and he is willing , only problem is mobility with one arm and a leg .. if he could get over then he has the job , gauranteed weekend work .. this morning I set up the multi ladder .. with a smal amount of assistance he got over and onto the roof , now very happy as he is challenging the limitations of his disability > I originally offered the roof job to an unemployed but able bodied youngster from the area .. nah not interested ... I think Sipho puts people like him to shame .. he got on with painting the flat roof and i could get on with my other work ..its now midday hot and he has clambered over again unassisted , testing the limits .. .. its now time for lunch and when its a bit cooler back over he will go ... I post the pic ..
Is this guy going to braai his meat on a wooden grid??
laughpoint
No just throw a patty on the roof at the height of midday sun .. it will fry very well ... any sane person in SA will avoid midday heat .. all that energy and all we have to do is find a very efficient way of harvesting it and we dont have to rely upon eksdom hey ?? the wooden grid is there to sit on so that one does not end up frying oneself ..
is it just me [and the vodka]in the picture ,i can see the grim reaper, near the ladders and the shaddow of the roof in the front of the pic, pray tell me sandy, what happend to the ajoining roof,i see a long red stripe ,did the painter slip whilst painting the apex of the roof,i will be interesterd to know what happend, great pic all the same
@ sandy
Do you need help to resize the pic ???

Or i repainted your colours LOL
(http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z249/georgswa/sandyroof2.jpg)
Georg, what did you use to change the colours, I 'm curious.....?
@ Mike
Thats Correl Picture Publisher
I use that since 10 years ago. Can do about all you wish
A function to change any existing colour i.e Red to green , blue, yellow whatever
@ mike here some examples
@ Sandy make up your mind which colour you want LOL
(http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z249/georgswa/sandycomby.jpg)
@ Georg thanks for the colour schemes .. the tatty half painted roof next door is my neighbours.. the hope is by freshening up .. they willl follow suit ..Resize pictures ?? I used microsoft picture manager to size down.. Bobby I think its the Vodka playing tricks ...
@ sandy
Grey on the roof ???? thats a real sun catcher
Pictures resize them to max 700 pixel width, that is to show the complete pic without having to scroll sideways
Take care
Georg
Charcoal .. dont worry house high ceilings so remains cool .. Next time I just resize a bit smaller and see ?? Ta
Are my boys having fun.

Yes Mike thats right, i have also the micrographics version almost identical.
I am using various programms to do my pics, depending on what i want to do
Picure it
Adobe 6
Adobe starter edition
Correl Picture 9
Correl picture publisher
Picasa
Irfan
Neat image
Gimp
Exif
Picture recover ( recovers deleted )
Picture optimizer
Squirlzreflect to,make waves
Then also for albums and animating i use Picasa and now Magix on DVD and Jalbum
These make also webpages presentations
For web building i use NOF, can also be done with word or frontpage
Then a lot of programms to make videos main is: Pinnacle studio 9 and movie maker
I also have a programm to convert video in to flash, and convert to DIVX
Power cinema includes various functions. Record Music, video, pictures, sound convert CDA to MP3 and WMA
For sound recordin: Sound forge and or Nero wave editor
To make real DVD Power producer
Anything else you want to know ???
Thats my main programms besides others
Total Capacity now is 1,5 terra for all my thousends of pictures and hundreds of videos
My My Georg .. so well equipped .. I remember the first program I had on a PC was Corel .. very good in so many ways .. was painful changing to MS based program .. Now the 10 million $ question .. all those terrabytes of storage of pics etc .. what backup do you have in the case of a PC blow up ?? trust me I seen it happen to people ,, or their PC gets stolen .. all intellectual input gone .. all pictures and memories gone ??
@ Sandy
No use to save all that on DVDs
Pictures alone are about 60 MB never mind the videos
I just bought another external hard drive at 500 GB That means storage of about 100 DVDs
Makes a total of 4 large external drives plus a small one ( 20 GB) when i travel to store pics
I have gone through so many changes in my life in movie and Video
8 mm
super 8 mm
super 8 mm + Sound
Beta
VHS
8mm video analogue
Digital Video
That keeps the business going
You see Sandy, i now have all the time i never had when i worked, so i am very productive in Photography and Video
@Georg, how would one convert Slides to an image file and super 8 to dvd, or at least how would you capture super8 to the PC?
idontknow
Now that's an excellent question ... my dad has loads of Super 8 movies and we'd love to put them on DVD. Georg, your expert advice is needed pls
I took my dad's collection down to CPT a few years back, but they wanted to charge me a kings ransom, so i left them... I thought about taking my digicam and recording the things whilst I played them back on the lounge wall.....
We also tried recording them but the image and sound quality was really poor. I checked online and found companies in the UK and the US that could do it, but as you say, it costs a fortune.
Picture and old 8 mm to DVD
I have done that yes, some of it can bee seen in the net
Pictures is best with scanning
Slides can be scanned ....but....you need a good scanner for that
I built a concoction to take photographs of slides directly.
Or project with slide projector to white surface
Or see videos version 4
A cardboard box with a hole on top to fit the slide, front side of the box is open and layd out with aluminium foil to reflect the incoming light. Then with macro mode i take pictures. See Oklahoma pics, they are done that way.
Thats now digital picture of slide.
8 mm films can be done as Mike said , not such good quality i know.
I tried many ways.
1) Project on wall
2) Project on white Paper
3) Project on a mirror that leads the pic again to the rear of a transparent white paper, record from the front.
could also be done direct with rear projection but will be mirrored, thats the best quality
4) I bought a gadget, project the video in to it, it reprojects the video again ( to reverse the mirror effect) on to a small screen. Put the cam in macro mode to that small screen. Voila thats it.
Now to how to get it the DVD
Many ways to do that. Depends on what programm you have........
I have differnet ones. To make it simple with an available prog. in XP use movie maker
Movie maker can import videos and pictures. Also some transition effects are available
When all is put together the film can be rendered with added sound
Now the question in what format to render it.
All the formats will run on the pc and many in the internet
Which one will run on your normal DVD player depends on the capbility of the player
Best is to test a DVD and run it with different formats on you TV DVD Player
Now how do i do it ???
I assemble video in Pinnacle Studio with combined video and pictures. That is rendered with sound and comment in the following type.
MPG runs on TV video player uses relativ little space ( 2 hrs / disk)
Full DVD is 1 hr per Disk that can be rendered to that format in Pinnacle
Or i use the rendered MPG and import it to Power producer. Here i make full DVD quality
I am sure i have confused you all now. But thats what i do plus more to load up to the net
If i can help the individual, talk to me, possibly on skype so i can asses what you have and make an instruction Blog for that
Its a special field and must be done step by step
Now here a link to an old 8 mm Film from the mine
That was done with ( see above 8 mm films version 4) with that gadget)
