I bought fresh snoek and harders from a fisherman that came down from Luderitz, and they looked good..ANyhow yesterday a contigent of police turned up demanding to know where we got the fish from, as theMinistry of FIsheries had fishnets across the river, and some bright person went down there and cut up all their nets and stole their fish.... anyhow after we explained to them that snoek swim in the sea and not the river.... and that they should check the fishermans permit at the gates, they would see that the fish was legal.... now the big question is.... why would the fisheries dept be spanning nets across the river?

Thats to prevent Diamonds flowing from the Oranje in to the sea LOL
Or is it preventing fresh water fish swimming to saltwater or vice versa.

Hony soit qui mal i pense ???
Sounds to me like something about an upset tummy (gippo guts) - he he he
Yay Wikipedia!
"Honi soit qui mal y pense" sometimes rendered as "Honi soit quy mal y pense", "Hony soyt qe mal y pense", "Hony soyt ke mal y pense", "Honni soit qui mal y pense", "Hony soyt qui mal pence" and various other phoneticizations, is the motto of the English chivalric Order of the Garter. It is also written at the end of the manuscript Sir Gawain and the Green Knight but it appears to have been a later addition.[1] Its translation is "Shame be to him who thinks evil of it"[2] or "Evil be to him who evil thinks"[3] from Old French.
This statement supposedly originated when King Edward III was dancing with the Countess of Salisbury. Her garter slipped down to her ankle, causing those around her to respond with sniggers at her humiliation. In an act of chivalry Edward placed the garter around his own leg, saying "Honi soit qui mal y pense", and the phrase later became the motto of the Order.
It may be understood as 'A scoundrel, who thinks badly by it', or 'Shame on him, who suspects illicit motivation'. Nowadays it is also used to express a slightly ironic sentiment about seemingly, but not explicitly related statements or events. Examples might be a story containing a double entendre, in which the teller 'warns' against the licentious interpretation. It can also be used to point out, by ironically denying, the actual relation of actions. If a politician were to argue the national benefit of a government program - which would happen to bring great investments to a particular county; the county where that politician happens to hail from: Then you'd be 'a scoundrel' to think anything but the 'national benefit' was the true motivation.
The phrase was quoted by Judge Goodwill Banner to Roy Hobbs near the finale of "The Natural."
@ Cherry ... Phew ! that proves the blonde is just from the box that says ' natural " well done wikipedia girl .. Oh by the way Chubby Charlie coming around for his dose of No 7 "natural" from the box on friday night .. care to join us ??.. he misses you ..

not a fish lover myself.......have never and would never try sushi......and cant eat large prawns since seeing someone eat a wichety grub in aus......put me right off prawns.......everytime i bit into a prawn after seeing one i would imagine the the yellow giblets would come sqirting out. when i bit into it
...so cant eat them now.................thought is share that bit on useless info with you all :emot19:
ps .....i cant eat KFC since reading an email that was going round a few years ago on how they actually produce the chicken.....never had one since.....and i used to luuuuuv them.
@Bev Please share your KFC story with us. I also stopped supporting them a while ago. I read an article on the web where a panel of nutritional experts were asked to rate our fast food establishments based on nutritional value, fat content etc. The famous fried chicken establishment was voted "most unhealthy" based on saturated fat content. Second worse was the brand sold under the golden arches.
Top of the list of "most healthy" take-away food was Nando's.
I don't eat KFC either, I always go on holiday and try out all the fast food joints, I like the KFC smell...but jeepers, that stuff is soaked in the oil...and I usually like oily foods... the fat bastard that I am... anyhow, for the first time ever I was forced to due the long q's at the other places to eat from Subways...now there's nice chow....
Have you ever walked past a SPUR restaurant when your hunger pangs are at their peak?? It makes me want to just rush in and snatch the first thing off the grill. feedme
If KFC would just listen to their critics and change the way they cook their chicken, I'm sure they'd win back many customers. Colonel Sanders is probably turning in his grave right now. "Sorry sir, heart disease comes first nowdays, your chicken second". abouttime
when i was in hospital cardiac drs told me kfc ,bucket of grease, rather eat nandos fat burns off. they said any packaging coloured red is bad.......... coke etc and i used to drink gallons of it.......

Yes and while I was in cardiac recovery, I was given cheese sandwiches for lunch....! I have not eaten any form of KFC in about 20 years. Not after I saw how they raised and treated the chickens. Well might Colonel Sanders role in his frigging grave! It was so disgusting.
But now I eat Nando's. Not as often as I like but it is the best!
This heartattack club that you guys are forming in here bothers me.... Robert U a smoker? CHris and You?
:emot19: Don't worry Michael, we're not planning on dying on you soon.
I agree Robert. Nando's is definately my first choice as well nowadays. I'm not really a health nut, but just try to eat healthy as far as possible. Pity about the coke though. Since I stopped drinking 2 years ago, I somehow got addicted to the stuff.
I have some large skilpaadtjies that I am gonna braai today...will post the photo's later..... Phew! It's a good thing I don't smoke... :emot19:

Hey Carl I reckon you changed from the one addiction to the other.... You need to lay off the coke cuz its not good for your teeth or your stomach. Do yourself and put a rusty nail in some coke and watch it over a few days and you will see what happens! I would hate to think what your stomach lining looks like!!!
Yes mother. What you forget though is that the coke doesn't stay in my stomach for a few days. As for the rusty nail theory...hmmmmmmmm
Thats nothing ...put a steak in coke....
Hey Mike I was gonna mention the steak theory but then I remembered how holy you are about your steaks and thought better not to go down that road! bling1
Mmmmh! Steak....kinda like Homer Simpson.... DoH! Donuts...what can;t they do...... Just in passing I'm a Simpsons fan... got 10 box sets and 4 more on HDD....... I know they ain't everyone's cup of tea...... But what can't they do....
Once again, same effect. Dont you guys watch Mythbusters on channel 250? It takes about 48 hours for Coke to inflict any type of serious damage on a T-Bone. I dont know about you guys, but I cant go that long without a P or three, so what's the problem?

My heart attack happened at 12:08pm while asleep in bed! I was, honest!
And I had smoked my last ciggie at approx 10:45pm. Had lamb chops for dinner and I thought the ciggie was aggravating the indigestion I was experiencing due to the lamb chops so took some Andrews and went to bed! Little did I know......
So that was how I stopped smoking - a week in Cardiac Intensive comatose on morphine. I recommend the hospital stay on morphine as the best method to stop smoking.Gets you past the critical 7th day detox headache stage quickly.
:emot172:

@Robert - You were one of the lucky ones. So many people nowadays don't recognize the symptoms of an impending heart attack. Funny enough, chest pains are considered a dead give-away, but this is only the case at the point of no return.
As you mentioned, it starts with indigestion type symptoms, followed by a pain in the left arm. At this point many patients don't have the slightest clue of what's coming.
What irritates me is those people who q up at the hospital, and there are plenty of them, with make belief , waste of time, feel sorry for me shit.... wasting doctors time... just to find out they have indigestion..... I don't want to be that... My pains do not come with the left arm thing yet..... and anyhow when I do get the chest pains, me being a fairly big bloke and all, just administer myself a well timed smack on my chest...and viola! It's gone..... so more than likely it's just air trapped somewhere..... we have no history of heart problems in my family... and my uncle( 66) is bigger than me.... I like to think of us as the Big Highlander types..... :36_2_35:
Play safe Mike, sluk an Aspirin a day to thin out the blood. Stops it coagulating to form clots. I have to so you can too......!
Would stomach ulcers not be a side affect of taking aspirin daily?
Works for me, this aspirin thing. Pity though I became addicted to the damm aspirin medication. Forgot to read the box, and there was a shot of caffeine that went with the aspirin. When I stopped the stuff, my mind started to create "phantom" headaches every day to force me back onto the medication.
Apparently it's a common problem in SA with this brand of aspirin, and many others have fallen into the same trap. Nevertheless, my blood stays nice and thin and so far so good. At this rate I'll probably get a stomache ulcer first before a heart attack.
@ RObert, my father gave me the same advice, after reading about it in the Scottish papers. he also reckons, WHiskey helps.......
@RHona, heard that also, therefore take it on a tummy full of food.....
Yup, and not more than 8 Grandpa's a day! I'd hate to see my stomache lining some days.
I will be honest and state that I do not take a disprin a day, but whenever I have a pain that I cannot explain in my chest... I pop a tab just to make me feel like...Well I did do something! quickdop
:emot19: A pill for everything, and everything for a pill.
mmmm! Guys OTC's are just as addictive as the prescription kind - I wouldn't advocate taking them regularly unless adviced to do so under a doctor and then you need to be monitored routinely; an ulcer is the least of your worries - some of these OTC's should not be taken at night as they mess with the liver.
Just cause it's OTC doesn't mean it is safe............be carefull..........if pain consists get it checked out - it's the law
Ah yes, the law of the jungle. Pharmacies in SA have recently started keeping registers of repeat offenders. What for, I don't know. If you start buying a certain OTC medication on a regular basis, they ask for your name and adress at the till. As I mentioned before, I don't know what for. No men in white lab coats have paid me a visit yet, so it's a matter of wait and see.
You would have thought that the ZA authorities had more important things to worry about....

I am on a daily dose of 100 mg since years, i also had aprehentions since i had heavy stomach problems that came from stress alone, admit, smoking does add to that. Since the stress is gone my Gastritis is gone too. For years i had to battle with that. In 1979 i went to Sossusvlei in the hope to calm down, i dit, but not enough....
I had to weigh out, the good against the bad. If i dont take that i may land in hospital again like i had done twice for blocked main artery to the leg.
Mike is relativ young, check with the doc what he says. He should know your condition......
i forgot to say.....
According to the meds, the stomach and the blocked arteries is only a result from smoking
Mike is a none smoker, so the docs will not know what to say when it happens......
@ Georg - course the docs will know...they'll say it's a virus - that's usually the answer given when they haven't a clue!!!
@ Carl - The reason why pharmacies start recording names if they become suspicious of overpurchasing of OTC's is because they are addictive and you might be buying them in a number of pharmacies - Caffeine is not the only addictive active in these - some could contain Codeine Or Diphenhydramine to name a few..........
im also on asprin, cholestrel tablet, blood pressure tab every day for ever.
asprin keeps blood thin....
warfrin....stops blood clotting..........same ingredient as in rattex....... so guys dont upset the wives, she could mix it in with your bolanaise sauce...... but on the other hand you could make the sauce for her bolanaise hahaha......... only kidding.

Rhona,
Good question. The answer has to be, "I do not know". I have been doing this for 4 years now and as far as I am aware, the side affects, if any, have not yet made themselves known to me.
But I can tell you that ulcers can be cured and do not manifest because of stress, anxiety, worry or any phobia. Tests strongly indicate that ulcers are bacterial infection and test results are proving very conclusive that a course of antibiotics clears them up.
[DISCLOSURE]: I am not a medic and am only repeating what I have read and heard.
As yourself Robert - I too am not a medic; but I would tend to err on the side of caution where drugs are concerned, whether on perscription or OTC; personally I think that if drugs are going to be taken long term - then it should be done so under medical supervision..........there are a lot of side affects that could occur; even after the human-guinnea pig trials have been completed and the drug has been deemed safe and suitable. Again that is only my own opinion and I don't claim to know the ins and outs of meds, although in saying that I would thoroughly research any presription written for me before I commence treatment.
As Robert says, Ulcers have a different origin, its the so called Helicobacter, that can be cured,
Aspirin has effects on the stomacs walls, it can aggrevate if you have what i had.....Gastritis
Never the less, aspirin helps keeping the blood thin and helps preventing clogging of the vessels, what ever that can cause, heart attack, Stroke, blocking of Arteries, all are life endagering........
In general we talk about elder persons like me, but it can hit youngsters too.
Combined with high blood pressure, stress, high blood fats, overweight, diabetes, to little exercise, smoking, Alcohol, Caffeine, all these factors count.
Thats why old buggers like me have to take all that, aspirin, Beta blockers, Diabetes medicines......
Overweight can lead to Diabetes type II, the problem is , you dont notice it unless you have blood tests made by chance..... I have no overweight, yet Diabetes II, so all rules have exeptions
Overweight however is the main cause.
Gastritis, has also side effects. The body can not take on Vit B12. That results in anemy with serious effects to death if not attended to. Usualy you must get injections on a regular base.
Vit Pills want solve the problem since the body does not absorbe Vit B12
I am no medic, but thats from own experience. Learned the hard way LOL
Wow, what a long post LOL

Regarding Michaels symtoms, now I can't spell this word so :"Hihaytis Hernia". has much the same feeling in the chest painfull, like a big bubble. Feels like ,you would think ,you going to have a heart attack. The aspirin, I've also heard of.
Never mind the medics, Regards Doctor Diana
Just to add.. eating white bread, cheese, tomatoes lettuce, cucumber and red wine tend to bring on the symtoms. Having 2 tablespoons of unflavoured Belgium yogurt a day seems to help.

bravo I hated chemistry at school. Never could figure out what the purpose was behind all those acid titrations we had to do. Fortunately though, it now pops up every now and then in my current hobbies and interests. I'm currently experimenting with "Browns" Gas. There's been much hype on the net recently about using it as an alternate fuel source, so I thought I'd give it a try. I got some ideas from the net, and will keep you posted on developments.

AFC African Fried Chicken as in Kentucky fried Chicken
Is AFC a franchise of KFC or is it a completely different company?

AFC is a copycat franchise, cheaper franchise than KFC, delivering a similar product...for those who are thinking about it...DON"T...... the aftersales service from the franchise holder is pathetic...I know the stories straight from the horses mouth.....
