been thinking and as the only person online from my year, can you remember -
John Vogel- wearing platform shoes, Colin Groom, Gary Vickers, (we got into trouble walking beyond the security fence) Chris Vermaak,(gave me a gold signet ring?) Steven Brownless, Paula Wallace, Vivienne Stanbridge, Linda deBeer, Delia Munn.
Stephen Hucker (RIP)

I can remember them as if it were yesterday Barbara! Last saw John Vogel in New Zealand in 1987.He had an older brother called Tony. Gary Vickers had an older brother called Leslie. Who could ever forget Steven Brownless? Geez, he was a real naughty sh*t. I believe he went to the UK to become a copper. I think most of us guys had the hots for Delia Munn, Paula Wallace and Linda De Beer. Did Vivienne wear calipers on her legs for a short while? I may be getting her mixed up with someone else. I wonder where they have all ended up? Around that time there were also other names that I can recall: Giselle Easton, Simon Mason, Steven Hodgson, Sabina Meyer, Mark?Bannister, Lynette Bezuidenhout, Sharon and Mark Swanepoel (He sent me an email last week), Wayne Boltman. How far back do we actually go? I arrived in O/mund midyear 1971, halfway through Sub B. My teacher was Miss. Loots. She eventually left, to pursue a career as an air hostess. Were you in my class back then? ...... Sorry, but the memory is a little jaded.

shit this site gets into your head, had a look through the old newsletters and found pictures of myself in the tennis team, with Mark Swanepoel.  Pictures of soccer boys, Chris, Gary and Kevin. Lynette doing gymnastics.
Vivienne did have calipers, I last saw her during high school, she went to Fairview in Tablebay.
Unfortunately I wasn't lucky enough to escape Mrs Castle, in Sub B. So no we weren't in class together that year.

I think I went on to be in Mrs Wilson's class, Mrs Coffin, don't have any names of faces after that.

I do remember a Afrikaans teacher(ST5), had a moustache, who used to walk on desks and had a cane covered in insulatation tape stripped. I think I even remember him picking a desk up with someone sitting in it.
Boys and girls were removed from the class and belted outside.  We were then given 5 minutes to walk around before coming back into class.
I was whacked on the open palm of my hand a few times.

you may be right, rings a bell, not sure, Mr Esterhuizen seems to fit the face of a teacher in spotted in the photo(staff 1979)
He doesn't have a moustache though maybe two people and I'm muddled. He did do PE and History maybe.

Hey Barbara,
I had Mrs.Castle for math's, and possibly another subject, but she wasn't my home teacher. I also had Mrs.Coffin at some stage, and Mrs.Wilson. There were always two English and two Afrikaans classes for each standard, so I'm guessing that we must have been in the opposing classes in the same standard. I am pretty certain that you and Margaret, or just yourself shared at least some subjects with me. That Afrikaans teacher, sounds like  Mr.Esterhuizen or Mr.Koch?
Can you remember if you were naughty, you were told to stand outside the class? This was almost as bad as getting a hiding, because if Dr.Venter or Mr Dickinson saw you standing outside, you were marched off to the office and promptly dealt with anyway. You would just stand there with your fingers crossed, and hope that you wouldn't be spotted. There was always that 50/50 chance.Real mind games stuff.

Hey Sandy,
I don't think it was Mr.vd Merve, as I think he may have left already. I do remember who you're talking about though. You're correct , he did take PT. He was very strict as I recall. He must have just left the Army or something, because I can remember him making us march for the whole period sometimes. We weren't allowed to flinch one bit. If he saw you, the cane was waiting. One day, he burst into the changeroom whilst we were getting dressed back into our school uniform, and demanded to know who was talking. No one owned up for obvious reasons, so he lined up the whole class and caned us all, no more questions asked. Discipline was pretty full on back then!!!

yea, Docter Venter's office I only ever went there on official business, LOL, but even then I stepped gently, made it though school without being in his bad books. I tried very hard to be very good,  was there a story / urban legend about him and his lack of certain bit of anatomy.

Howzit Mike,
Yeah, that's them. Gerald was a plumber I think, and Sue worked in the bank. Where is Stephen and his sister Jackie? They used to live opposite the school.

Michael Alexander
