They want the mines to close for 6 weeks ??

They already have all the night shift on standby, the loss of revenue is unimaginable, crazy.  Only in Africa.  God bless Africa.

I still believe that if more people at home tried to cut back this issue could be managed better... I won't mention any names, but I was at somebody's house last week at 17h00 and they had five, yes 5 lamps on in their lounge... the sun only sets at 19h11 these days...UNBELievable....

Thats what Kudu was meant to be all about, but  the reserves and money are not what everyone thought they would be.... My own personal favourite would be to build huge solar arrays at keetmanshoop, the 5th sunniest place in the world, Windfarms at EBAY ... .....i WAS never in favour of the eyesore of this gas power station being put up here anyhow.....

Ja, solar panels, I feel that the government expects all middle class families to supply there own panels, and generally everyone would generate enough energy to sell back to the grid.  Why are they not installing solar panels on all the new houses they build.

They dished out free energy saver light bulbs in Namibia like they did in ZA, but I see somewhere that this kind of light is linked to epilepsy.....

re light saving - I read that, the bulbs are pretty mean anyway (in brightness) I did try them, as quick as I put them in Finbar removed them.

 CFL lights Bright  yes  .. thats  the  cheapie  government issue   , I also   wont  use those  they are  ghastly , light  your  home up  like an office  block   ...    available on  the shop  shelves    warm white cfl globes  .. I  use them   for  all  my  side  lights  ,   in  the garden   and  for  front  of  house  floodlights   ..   its  a  case  of  shopping  carefully ...   ...

What a fiasco!!!! Everyone involved should be fired including out Deputy President and Minister of Minerals and Energy. You are quite correct Michael, everyone has to do their bit to save energy. I get mighty upset when I'm sitting without electricity for 6 hours to 10 hours a day (really bad here) and I walk into an office or shop and the airconditionerrs are on full blast. People just don't seem to grasp the seriousness of the situation. Carte Blanche last night was a real eye opener and proves that we're in this situation because of "affirmative action" and BEE policies and for no other reason.

@ Carte Blanche, I liked the way the Affirmative chief of EKSDOM refused the interview pushed that Fat white boy onto Derek's spear, the way he kept blinking like that, the way Derek made him squirm...... whatever happened to those 30m high coal stockpiles outside the power stations.... Blink blink....... To be honest with you guys , I actually enjoy power outages , except for the loss of stock and sales, it's enjoyable, back to nature, back to a time when the earth was a much quieter place.....
