Who remembers the Soap Box Derby we use to have every year.  We all use to make go-carts (well our dad's did) and we use to race them down the big hill at the entrance of town.

Ive got a picture somewhere... I will have to dig it out.

Hi Wendy

Was great to see your folks in CT in May!

I don't remember the Soap Box Derby but I do remember the Mule Derby that was normally held in June/July where they sold those hotdogs with the horrible pink sausages. They also had the "Guess the weight of the pig" competition. Can also remember going on pony rides there and there used to be a fancy dress competition as well.

Shannon and Cameron , now 9 and 6, go to the daycare that is next to the Mule Derby (now called Independance Park) and it is quite sad to see how neglected it has become.

Say hi to all of the family when you speak to them!

Hi Michelle,

Nice to hear from you.  My folks filled me in on all the going on's when i picked them up from the airport.  I was only about 9 or 10 when they did the soap box derby...it was good fun.

hope your keeping well

Ahhhh yes, the soapbox derby... Mike, how can you not remember... it was an even playing field till Jannie Snyders build his boys (Dewet and something) that 'drag racer' go-cart, then they won everything. Remember Denzyl Wiedemann building the F1 replica for Darryl and Warren!!!! Smart car but way too heavy.... I think it was more of a competition between the dads as opposed to the kids

Paul Alexander - gotta change that nick.

My old man ginger built me a huge big box of a thing but i was to afraid to go racing down the hill, they took on jannie snyders super machine and lost but still took out most of the competition by barging thru or over them.....

i need to get back to SA sometime as my old man has 1000's of pics on slide shows from the model plane days horse riding etc,,,

for a small town we sure kept busy with activities
