Hey there!

I see the majority of Oranjemunders on the site (ex- and current) are mainly from the 50s, 60s and 70s era.  But what about the 80s babies??

I lived in Oranjemund throughout my whole childhood - from 1987 to 2005 - and will always consider myself an Oranjemunder by heart.  I'd love to know where the other 80s babies are.  So if you are one (or you know one??) give me a shout!

Otherwise - how is the little diamond in the desert doing??!!

Hi Christine.
For me it would be great to hear what life was like at that time.
So please start some topics. The rest will follow...

Hi Christine - and welcome.

We were there from 80 - 92 I have a sister Kathleen who is now 30 - she is a member of the forum and a Brother Laurence who is 33.
We live in Belfast Northern Ireland.

do you have any brothers, sisters .  what school did you go to??

Christine Mostert

Hey Claire,

I don't think I remember being acquainted with you.  Your sister is older than I am, so I figure we just never really met.

I was did my whole primary education at OPS, and went to Alexanderbay highschool.  I have an brother who is now 24, and a much younger sister.  She's only 13 now, so there's not a chance you know her!

Did you ever go to OPS??  What do you remember about Oranjemund?

hi

All three of us went to OPS - then I went to Rhenish , Kathleen whent to Springbock, Laurence was at SACS for a time then Winthoek.

We were teenagers when you were just starting off.

Where did you live in O'mund.  we were in 70-2nd ave, then 2-16th ave then 13th ave.
We sound like a bunch of Gypsy travlers.  We also lived in Kimberly for a while.
trying to think of anyone else I can remeber that whould have been about your age.

Melanie and John Darney had three young daughters.  Annie, Sarah and Lindy ( I think) they have an older brother Andrew.

Christine Mostert

Yeah, we moved there when I was only 2 and I moved away 2 1/2 years ago.  Sjoe, must say I really miss it sometimes!

We lived in 8th Avenue, right in the centre of town, then in Ostrich Drive (on the West border of town) and then in East 8th Avenue, a stone's throw away from the "Tank Park" - the playground with that old tank just standing there.  Do you remember that?

I know about the Darney's - Annie & Andrew I specifically remember - but we didn't really know each other that well.  I know Melanie worked in the children's library since forever.  I dealt with John through work circumstances a few times when I worked for Namdeb, but other than that I can't say I really knew them.

My brother also eventually went to Springbok, and most of my friends went to Cape Town for high school.  Funny how all the Oranjemund students kinda ended up in the same schools, even if it was decades apart!

were are you living now?

We have been here for 16 years now - and still remember so much , used to love going swimming at the pool .
My Mom and Dad used to run the bar at the Yaucht club for a while.  Used to love it , they never knew what we were getting up.
not that we ever did anything really bad,  and if anyone ever tells you any stories,  it wasn't me pls

I too wish to compliment the station, ever since it hit town, thats all that plays at home and in the car and in the store, when there's a signal... it's by far the greatest flashback 80's radio station by far...keep hearing tunes that I thought I had forgotten.....

Whenever I go to Nam (Henties natuulik) - I tune in to Radio Kudu.  Even once had an interview on air with them when we launched my last CD  -  (that CD should still be in their archives somewhere  -  about 6 months ago a drunk guy called me up, crying his eyes out 'cos to his alchol infested ears I was his idol & all that crap  -  told me he heard my music on Radio Kudu and got my contact details from them).

Christine, can't say that I recall your name or know you, but  -  keep it going girl - even picked up your radio station once when I was travelling to CT - going down Van Rhyns pass - couldn't believe it.  And welcome to the forum.    Babies from the 80's you say  -  I just told my baby sis (Wilma Swarts - nee Coetzee), who is currently on visit in the country (she lives in Mali in North-West Africa with her hubby and kiddos) about the site today.  I don't think you will know her, as my parents moved from O/Mund in 1986, but to the sound of it you might be around the same age.   She finished matric in 1990 or 1991 - not to sure.

Well, hopefully she will register and join as well -  so there will be another 80's baby on board for us.

Sjoe, maar die Oranjemunders is besig!!

We're really pleased that everyone enjoys the station so much.  Give us a call more often!  We love hearing from you guys, but we hear so little...

Dalene...your name sounds familiar.  I'll go look on our database if we still have your music and give it a listen!

So what do y'all say about the Super 14?  Everytime the Bulls lose I can just hear the deafening silence in the Scannex hallway and the sly smiles of all the Stormers fans....hee hee hee....
