So how many of you (Ex) Oranjemunders can remember wandering those dark streets at night playing Tok Tokkie,

The stupid ALexander Brothers tried to play this one saturday afternoon after the matinee, and Jannie Snyders caught us, bliksem, big trouble.....

Legend has it that my dad chased some yoofs around down in only his jockeys. They played a version of to-tokkie - chucking stomes on the roof. late at night.

He caught them and klapped one of the guys. He was in big poo with the parents. Cannot remember who it was. :-\

Oh wow... i remember Tok tokkie.   We use to play it when going home after a night at the Youth Club or bioscope.

It was always ....my sisters, the Hills and the Fields and Maxine Hall as we all lived in the same side of town.

Man ....those were the good old days lol

i remember - the Castle brothers ,Percy Barratt and myself use to do this on weekends, our favourite target was Clives father (Dennis Symes) we used him because he ALWAYS chased us - he would come tearing out of the house with belt and all - I do not know how we were never caught
Do you realise that in 40 years time, there will be a lot of old ladies walking around with tatoos?

We played tok tokkie on the house next to ours and the stone went right through the window, we all ran into the house and pretended that we were showering, the guy came over and our domestic saved our butts by saying we had been in the house the whole time, shame, we had even corrupted poor old Erastmus.

Michael Alexander

Well at least you had a shower for the month.... so all was not lost.....

Some comparison to what you are referring to -    peeled and sliced onions that has been sitting in the fridge in a plastc bag for about 3 weeks, and then you suddenly open it  -    the only descriptive word I know for that smell is in Afrikaans, so please forgive me all you English guys, but I have to say it, and if you are sensitive of nature....  PLEASE DO NOT CONTINUE TO READ>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Life becomes harder for us when we live for others, but it also becomes richer and happier. Friendship is a sheltering tree.

To be clever enough to get a great deal of money, one must be stupid enough to want it.

Those who bring sunshine to the lives of other cannot keep it from themselves.

The  one  night Robin and I  were  out  doing  the  tok tokkie  thing ...  small  stones on  the  roofs .. then  we  stopped , looking  at  the  one  house in  5th avenue  just  behind  town  electrical  workshop  . it  had  a  huge  picture window in  the dining  room and  the  family  were  sat  down  to  supper .. robin  decided  he  had  to  excell  himself  on  this  one  as  we  could  see  them  and  gauge  the  reactions  to  their  meal  being  disturbed .. So  he chose  this boulder  sized  stone .. did  a  mini  cricket  run up and  lobbed  the missile ..  well  he totally  underestimated  its  weight  and  path .. It  did  not  go  high  enough .. in  slow  motion  we  watched this ' stone"  fall  short  of  the  roof  and  smash  through the  picture window landing  on the  table  and  scattering  food  and  table wear .. of course the fright of this  everybody just  about fell  outof  their  chairs  in panic .... we did  not  stay a moment  longer .. running  away as though the  devil  were  on  our tails .. hell if  we had  been  caught  we  would  have  been  skinned  alive ..  trick  .. you  run  home  as  fast as you  can , sort of  sit  around in  the  garden  as  though  you were  there  forever   in  case  you  were  seen  by  somebody ...

Never .. when the  devil  is  on  your  tail  you  flee .. one  night  crowd  of  us  were on our bikes and we  were  knocking on some girls window .. when suddenly the curtains were thrown open and  there was the  father staring at us , thank goodness it  was dark  .we were not  recognisable .. we  fled on  our bikes with  the  father in pursuit in  his  car , if  I  remember  corectly  Gus  was involved in  this  escapade ,, seeing  the  headlights coming  around  the  corner our  only salvation  was  to launch ourselves  into  a trench  that  had  been  dug ,, so bikes and all  at an angle and pray  you dont  kill  yourself .. a  six  foot  trench with boulders is  no  soft  landing .. it  was  sore  ,  we  had  to  bite our tongues no  matter  how  much  we  were  hurting .. some other  poor  soul  tried  to hide  in a  creeper  along  a  fence  , and  there  was he  like  a  rabbit  in  a  cars  headlights .. presence of  mind  to  climb  over  the  fence  into  a  garden   and  continue  fleeing  for  his  life  with  the  father  now  in  pursuit  no  foot .. ,, none  of  us  were  caught  that  night , but  try  explaining  to  your  parents    the  cuts  bruises  and  scrapes  plus  damaged  bikes  the  next  morning ???

Hi boet,
we are all fine and healthy - is seem to remember being chased by a father at one time - if I recall it was Burdett! - my memory fails me about the details of that episode so yes I might have been involved in that merry chase. keep well will keep in touch.
