The inside scoop, is that the previous girls who worked there, were not Gr12's and all of them turned out to have sticky fingers, dishing out biltong to their friends and even eating the product themselves..... So I think JJ hopes that a girl with Gr12 will be more accountable...

The buzz saying in the trade:"You pay peanuts...you get monkey's"

Heh heh!  Go apply Mike - need biltong - can't afford it anymore!  Don't forget to put glue on ya fingers!

Michael Alexander

Gee!..... I hope they have enough peanuts.....   :emot19:

Dalene Steenkamp (Coetzee)

Do you guys remember that Mercer Leeb, who is advertising for Old Mutual here, used to be a policeman in Oranjemund?  Him and some other policemen from Karasburg were involved in a big accident in the mine area somewhere in 1983.

Life becomes harder for us when we live for others, but it also becomes richer and happier. Friendship is a sheltering tree.

To be clever enough to get a great deal of money, one must be stupid enough to want it.

Those who bring sunshine to the lives of other cannot keep it from themselves.

Sheena

Hi Daleen,
We all used to call Mercer by his nickname "Vissie".  He came to see Garry & myself last year.  What a shock.  He is a big bloke now.  Him and Irene are still married and living just outside Mariental.

Bev Coates (Now Walker)

oh ...wish id seen the ad for the biltong job earlier......i would have applied for it........lol......your so right about paying peanuts and getting monkeys...........but you also see a lot of the other side too.....employees get real loyal trustworthy people and treat them like shit and give them low wages......i would love to be doing a job i really enjoyed.....whithin the care industry,,,,,but they pay minimum wage for what must be one of the hardest jobs in the world........i get paid much more now for being sat in an office all day than i did when i cared for people with autism......its all wrong , and with all the care homes that open in our country....its people out to make loads of money that open them....put people into looking after these residents  who dont really want to be there but they probably cant get any other job....the people that want to do the job with a passion cant afford to do the job..............oh im rambling....lol   sorry...al go lol

World No Tobacco Day, 31 May 2008

Theme: TOBACCO-FREE YOUTH

Tobacco is the leading preventable cause of death in the world. It is the only legal consumer product that kills one third to one half of those who use it as intended by its manufacturers, with its victims dying on average 15 years prematurely.

Approximately 1.8 billion young people (aged 10-24) live in our world today with more than 85% found in developing countries. Having survived the vulnerable childhood period, these young people are generally healthy.

However, as the tobacco industry intensifies its efforts to hook new, young and potentially life-long tobacco users, the health of a significant percentage of the world's youth is seriously threatened by their deadly products.

Nicotine is a highly addictive substance and child and adolescent experimentation can easily lead to a lifetime of tobacco dependence.

World No Tobacco Day, 31 May 2008
The focus
Globally, most people start smoking before the age of 18, and almost a quarter of these individuals begin using tobacco before the age of 10. The younger children are when they first try smoking, the more likely they are to become regular tobacco users and the less likely they are to quit.

It is clearly proven that exposure to direct and indirect pro-tobacco advertising, together with other marketing strategies used by the tobacco industry, leads to an increase in experimentation by young people and, in turn, to the very real risk of their becoming regular users of tobacco products.

In response to this threat to young people, this year's World No Tobacco Day campaign focuses on the following main message:

One of the most effective ways countries can protect young people from experimenting and becoming regular tobacco users is to ban all forms of direct and indirect tobacco advertising, including promotion of tobacco products and sponsorship, by the tobacco industry, of any events or activities.

World No Tobacco Day, 31 May 2008
A call for action
A TOTAL BAN ON ADVERTISING, PROMOTION AND SPONSORSHIP OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS REDUCES CONSUMPTION
Call to young people:

Let the policy-makers of your country know what you think. Advocate for a total ban on advertising, promotion and sponsorship of tobacco products in your country.
Get involved in a campaign to educate your peers on how the tobacco industry uses advertising, promotion and sponsorship to persuade you to smoke or use other forms of tobacco.
Call to the public:

Call on policy-makers to ban advertising, promotion and sponsorship of tobacco products to protect young people.
