Talking about  the MIB  .. our  new  phenomena  in SA  is   the  "escorting " of the  " entitled but  not necessary  deserving "   by  3-5  or  maybe  more  Black X5's   with  blue  flashinhg  lights  .. they  are  mean  and  they just  push  people  out of the  way   on the  road   ..  I  say its  an  abuse  of  power   and  appatrnetly  they   are  untouchable  as  they  are  from VIP ( very  important  pig  ? )   protection  unit ..   I  know  I  am  taking  a risk but  its like  a red  rag  to  a  bul,l  when i  see  them  so  at every opportunity  I  play  dumb  and do  not  get  oput of  their  way  .. or  overtake  them  and  give  them  the  two  finger  sign just  to  let them  know  how I feel  . once  again last  night  on  de waal  drive .. the  same  .. I  felt  hackles  rise ...   got  level  and  did  the two  finger  salute  again  . More people  must  do  that  let  them  know  what  you  think  of them very  important  pigs ....

An intersting email from an expert, Dr Paul Brandt.... website at  www.maritimeafrica.org

"Hi Mike, Thanks!

It looks like broken stone cannon balls for larger cannon -  earlier bronze cannon used stone shot - the cannon are badly eroded due to earlier sea action - These are deck mounted Swivel guns which were used on Portuguese (and spanish) ships.   Bronze cannon started disapperaing in the early 16oo's - from these few photographs alone - seeing tusks, bronze cannon and stone cannon balls - agree that it must be Portuguese mid 15oo's - probably a ship returning from India due to the tusks being on board. But then, it could be a  west coast Portuguese slaver who picked up the tusks in Luanda and got a bit lost. To id the ship as coming from India we need to see the tell-tale money cowries, carnelian beads and Chinese export porcelain. I can forward pics to who-ever wants it. The porcelain shards would give us an opportunity to date the ship with-in a period of 30 years. We collect porcelain shards from the beach for all our SA Portuguese wrecks and date and identify the wrecks by dating the porcelain shards.

Would appreciate as many pics as possible. I did e-mail Dr Noli - lets hope he can/will reply. Any ideas from your side - anybody of the diamond people who you can reccommend me contacting to offer my help/co-operation. You are welcome to send my e-mails to who-ever you wish. My aim is to collect as much info as possible and help where I can.

Cheers Paul"

Thanks, we appreciate the update.  Keep it coming  -

I just hear from a reliable source that a container full of coins (sparkling ones) has been found on the wreck yesterday afternoon...they have been removed to a secure location for cleaning..... Hoping to meet the good Dr in the store tonight for more info....

Ongoing discussion..my next email...

"Hi Michael,

If some coins were indeed found and if you can get a date/s from some of those coins (a pic or two would be fantastic) I can get you a possible name for the shipwreck. If you see Dr Noli - please show him some of our communication and ask him to please contact me - he may not have e-mail facilities and may not read my e-mail to him.

Coins are always one of the best ways of identifying a ship. It can give you the nation, the approx date (the ship could not have been lost earlier than the latest date on the coins), the metal -gold,silver or bronze can give you history of routes etc etc - it is all part of a gaint jigsaw puzzle - exiting!

  Cheers  PAUL
