Whilst on my tour with Alan yesterday, I took a few more snaps of the aging fairground equipment. Many of you would have taken a ride on these things...Here they stand, rusting in the wet desert sun.... Rhona ..here's your rolling drum.... and here be dead dragons.....

Not nice  to  see , I think of the  waste of  energy and good intent put  into those items by those that wanted to  bring joy to  the children of  the  town ... all  cast  aside .. if only one of  the  guesthouses  with  space take over some of the  rides .. set them up  as part of childrens  playground ..  there is  somthing  like that near  somerset west ..  tea garden etc ??
To see  sometimes  requires that you  first believe .

Good Idea Sandy.... Whilst down at Sheperds neck yesterday, I saw that they had purchased a few old Swings and a slide from the mine, that they intend to put up at Sheperds Neck, as a further attraction for the kids..... I feel though that the above fairground equipment is past it sell by date and could be dangerous to try and reuse....

:emot78: The carpet is gone from the rolling drum - my first experience of carpet burn!!! The dragon needs a good lick of paint - but I think you are right Mikey; to put a child on any of those rides would be asking for trouble. And still while looking at those pictures - I can feel the sun on my face and hear the squeals and laughter from all the kiddies ringing in my ear; the shouts on which ride to go on next, the queues and the ''Wait for me''........the candy floss, the cool drinks, the movie hall, the hot sausages in fresh rolls and to end the day with a bag of sugary fudge.......mmm! mmm! Wow - how lucky am I to have had such a great start in the best little desert in the world?

I still remember the sessions/disco's they used to have around the corner from the beergarden. And the Hocus pocus? And the 10pound hammer smash?Nice food and the barnyardparty afterwards in the Rec club hall.

Hocus Pocus............bells going off in my head - some-one remind me again, please

And the battery powered :emot186:

Remember hitting the 6 inch nails into the plank, I would look underneath the plank to check for cracks or a nice knot free area while others were having a bash then gamble for tickets with the stall operator about how many hits I would need to get the nail all the way home. If I started running low on tickets for other stalls... back to the old plank it was, wack a few more nails in and ticket stocks were up again.

Coconut shy... the greasy pole... guess the weight of the pig, the Beauvalon stall... hey it never ended.
All things electrical contain smoke. Making it come out is easy; getting it back in? ... yeah right!!!
