i went onto google earth earlier today and went to look at oranjemund. i scannded down what i bealived to be 9th avenue to go look for my old house.
and basically i was looking for the tank park as a point of reference, ony when i found what i thought was the tank park it looked bare ie no tank. so i was wondering does anybody have a clue as to how old the google images are so i could get an idea as to what year the images are of ....or is it recent and the park no longer a TANK park.
of course i am in shape...i'm round

Hey Daryl ... it depends on how many beers you've had as to whether there is one tank... two tanks... or any tank!!   Maybe you were just too tanked to see it  ;D

on the topic of google earth some school leavers at Finbar's school drew a ding aling with balls as  a departing gift to the school using
weed killer on the lawn.  It resulted in the desired effect and unfortunetly was captured on google earth.
It was funny, from the perspective of space, and apparently really difficult to repair. Google earth has been updated since then unfortunately, so no point in giving you the name of the school.

I always said to myself, that once this forum had 300 members , I would feel content that the site had achieved it's objective. I also said that a reunion should be organised, but felt it would only be viable once we reached the 500 mark, as one could only expect 20 % to attend such a gathering.

I was talking to Anette' over at the museum and next year is the 100th year of the the discovery of the diamond in the Spergebiedt and that they are trying to organise a few high profile, tourist orientated events/functions for next year. In the back of my mind I always believed that perhaps this would be the idle time to organise a reunion.

On the downside, I feel, deeply, that if a number of old timers had to return here for a visit, they would feel depressed, disappointed and even saddened to see that the memories that they for so long had treasured, have been changed.

On the upside, I always maintained that it was the people that made the era, the atmosphere and the culture we had here all those years ago. Most of the buildings are still here, we just need the people to return , the age gaps between us , mean nothing, just like the siblings in a large extended family, we have the same roots.

Braai at the Yacht Club, A mine tour and a dinner function  in the Rec club with ye olde slide show and old tales would be the order of the day. The wine shall flow and the Oranjemunders will once again make memories, whilst sharing the past!

Lets see how many members we have by the end of November!

Please submit your ideas, if you had to plan a reunion up here, and i don't mean drinking behind the youth club or out the post box!

My idea would be to do a presentation to Namdeb as part of the 100 year celebrations to charter a flight for ex Omnders.First prize would be to sponsor the flight 100% or partially sponsor. They could even buy a group discount on Air Namibia.
Set up an itinerary and cost it as an all inclusive package.

You could then offer 2 options :

Self Drive Package
Includes: Accomodation, Meals ( at the mess )

Fly-In Package
Includes: Return Flight ( partially or fully sponsored by Namdeb ) Accomodation & Meals

What do you think? A long shot?

A reunion might be a great gig as long as it has something to look forward to like for me it'd be a drink in Casey's

;D And a tour of the Rec Club roof again

:D And sneaking into the GMs pool

:o And bombing off the diving board

:P And building a splitpole fort

;) And cheerleaders like we had on sports day!

:-\ And a bike ride to the Pink Pan?

8) And a battle in the 'trees'

Now Debby thats a nice idea. If they don't go for it we will just drive up and the 4 of us and our 5 SAPLINGS will just park off at Micheal and Michelle's house. ::)

In true Scottish tradition, this house is always open to visitors, but I might have to ask my English wife first  ;D

Darryl, I took today off , in order to braai  some vleis and get ready for the the big rugby game tonight, whilst I drove around this morning, I took the liberty of driving past your tank, it;s still there, and I include the proof!

I am not to bothered about what O'mund looks like, I have the mental pictures in my head but what I think makes O'mund is it's people. I would come over to see all my buddies and old faces that I can't remember. It would just be talk talk talk and more talk....
