Works for me, this aspirin thing. Pity though I became addicted to the damm aspirin medication. Forgot to read the box, and there was a shot of caffeine that went with the aspirin. When I stopped the stuff, my mind started to create "phantom" headaches every day to force me back onto the medication.

Apparently it's a common problem in SA with this brand of aspirin, and many others have fallen into the same trap. Nevertheless, my blood stays nice and thin and so far so good. At this rate I'll probably get a stomache ulcer first before a heart attack.

@ RObert, my father gave me the same advice, after reading about it in the Scottish papers. he also reckons, WHiskey helps.......

I will be honest and state that I do not take a disprin a day, but whenever I have a pain that I cannot explain in my chest... I pop a tab just to make me feel like...Well I did do something!

mmmm! Guys OTC's are just as addictive as the prescription kind - I wouldn't advocate taking them regularly unless adviced to do so under a doctor and then you need to be monitored routinely; an ulcer is the least of your worries - some of these OTC's should not be taken at night as they mess with the liver.

Just cause it's OTC doesn't mean it is safe............be carefull..........if pain consists get it checked out - it's the law

Ah yes, the law of the jungle. Pharmacies in SA have recently started keeping registers of repeat offenders. What for, I don't know. If you start buying a certain OTC medication on a regular basis, they ask for your name and adress at the till. As I mentioned before, I don't know what for. No men in white lab coats have paid me a visit yet, so it's a matter of wait and see.

I am on a daily dose of 100 mg since years, i also had aprehentions since i had heavy stomach problems that came from stress alone, admit, smoking does add to that. Since the stress is gone my Gastritis is gone too. For years i had to battle with that. In 1979 i went to Sossusvlei in the hope to calm down, i dit, but not enough....

I had to weigh out, the good against the bad. If i dont take that i may land in hospital again like i had done twice for blocked main artery to the leg.

Mike is relativ young, check with the doc what he says. He should know your condition......

According to the meds, the stomach and the blocked arteries is only a result from smoking

Mike is a none smoker, so the docs will not know what to say when it happens......

@ Georg - course the docs will know...they'll say it's a virus - that's usually the answer given when they haven't a clue!!!

@ Carl - The reason why pharmacies start recording names if they become suspicious of overpurchasing of OTC's is because they are addictive and you might be buying them in a number of pharmacies - Caffeine is not the only addictive active in these - some could contain Codeine Or Diphenhydramine to name a few..........

im also on asprin, cholestrel tablet, blood pressure tab every day for ever.

asprin keeps blood thin....

warfrin....stops blood clotting..........same ingredient as in rattex....... so guys dont upset the wives,she could mix it in with your bolanaise sauce...... but on the other hand you could make the sauce for her bolanaise hahaha......... only kidding.

Good question. The answer has to be, "I do not know". I have been doing this for 4 years now and as far as I am aware, the side affects, if any, have not yet made themselves known to me.

But I can tell you that ulcers can be cured and do not manifest because of stress, anxiety, worry or any phobia. Tests strongly indicate that ulcers are bacterial infection and test results are proving very conclusive that a course of antibiotics clears them up.
