i worked in magazine mine stores and was  sent to tank farm with a guy by the name of stoffel and pat ray"mike rays'dad torecieve and calculate the amount of fuel being pumped ashore to the tanks. we had to work the night shift and climb up those tanks in the cold and mist with only a torch. we took adepth reading then the figures would be caculated on one of those old calculating machines that looked like a typewriter with a roll of paper in it,printing the figures. then the amounts were radioded out to the ship by two way radios. the voices always sounded rough, not at all like our cell phones of today.

Didn't the meat come from Beavallon farm? I remember going on a tour of their abbatoir once whils't at OPS. They even showed us the pneumatic device they used to shoot a bolt of steel into the pigs brains to kill them painlessly.

Before the days of Beauvallon, the meat came down by lorry from the Aus..... but even before that I have it on good authority that there were cattle drives down throught the desert, thus all the old watering holes that were constructed down the Sperrgebiedt..... Imagine that... a cattle drive through the desert....

Something straight out of the wild west. I wonder if they made it past Brokeback mountain without too much scandal...lol

Hey Mike, just had to let you know that I have just had my months supply of meat delivered to my door (how's that for service) and have just finished portioning it up into meals.  the meat looks lovely, the chicken I'm a bit worried about it looks like turkeys, wonder if they been feeding them steroids.  Bacon looks great lamb and pork looks like SA and we going to have a braai tonight, yes, we got SUN!!!!
