I can remember working night shift at two plant and seeing domestic cats running around in the store rooms and workshops anyone know how they got up there. Its a pretty far walk from check point!

Cherry (Alcock)

I do know that in the 70s & 80s quite a few of the guys in the single quarters in the mine took cats, dogs, birds and even a baboon into the mining area as pets - probably some offspring.

WHAT WERE YOU DOING IN THE SINGLE QUARTERS CHERRIE cat3

Jeremy Dixon

Yeah thats understandable! But amazing how animals adapt and become self suficient eating anything they can to survive!

Myself and Johan Di Paola  set up fishtanks  in the  4 plant  tea room  ..  every trip to CT I would buy a few more specimens  from  the  then OK bazaars   pet  section , drive  them  all  the  way  up  to OM .. My  fishtank had  two  huge  angelfish in  it .. also in the  4 plant office block  .. Ethel Holmes was the  secretary/receptionist  and I  waould  always  be  called  to  tend  the  tank  in  the reception area if it  leaked or fish  were  looking  distressed ..  Wonder what happened  to  those  tanks and their occupants ??

After you left there was no more fish food.
people started to feed them bread, water went green and the tanks were turfed out.

There was a fishpond at OPS as well, in the courtyard outside the main hall. Same story, bread, pies, cake. The fish had a ball.
