The Police gates along the Port Nolloth road, two of them, and another one on the road to Beauvallon. The bus which would run from the Rec. Club to the Yacht Club and back on a Sunday. The bell that would ring in Sportsmans about 5 minutes before the trailers or movie was to start. Father Cawthorne (Padre) taking us choir and altar boys to Luderitz for a weekend away once a year. The gemsbok and jackals that would come into your garden if you left your gate open. The pondoks. Youth club when Ballyhoo played one weekend I think it was a warmup for a concert they did in the Rec. Club main hall and the coolest thing of all about that was, that we got to help them set up their equipment (just their skivvies) and got to chat to them. Care free lifestyle. Beauvallon camp site. A trip into the Richtersveld, absolutely mind blowing, the silence of the area really deafens you. The noise from the power station and when there was the slightest change in noise my Old Man would be out of the house and up to the station. Introduction of TV and all the aerial poles that started sprouting around town like mushrooms. Vomit comet flights to Windhoek. Being airlifted across the river as the old bridge was under water after a flood and our car taken across by barge. So many events, so many good memories and so many great people.
Oranjemund 1960 - 1988
