Up until today, after 38 years of living here, I only noticed four garages in a row in this pic.... taken to the west of the power station ....... I think it must be the 60's...

Ahh yes, neat and tidy gardens, intrigueing I must say as to what road that is - I see 4 garages - never nknew there was such a thing
I also see a single garage
I always thought every house had a garage but obviously not.
Any info on this ?

On the left hand margin, you can see the corner of a white brick wall...that is the South West corner of the yard at the west side of the powerstation...

That would be the back of the G.M.'s house in the top left, just down from there that the open ground with the reservoir (sp).
Back then only the Staff houses had garages. Us Daily Paids only got them later. The 4 bedroom houses that were built to the East eg; E13/ etc were built with garages.

I recall the name Sandy. My first house when I got married (before we moved to 6/16) was one of those small 2 bedroom houses with the laundry outside. 37/1st if I'm not mistaken.

Now heres a story thats emerging from the mists of time .. the   wall .. corner of the  town electrical workshop as seen in the pic .. That workshop used to be the town garage untill the new garage was built  behind first avenue ..  that same  corner .. inside were  garages and enclosures .. in that same corner was a car .. a Morris Minor .. it was a total wreck  front ended and  badly ..I can almost see myself standing there and looking at this wreckage .. ( would have been  early to mid 60's  .. the family in this car   I recall the name mac donald ( maybe wrong  but  that  whats   coming to me ) they were all killed in this  accident .. coming back from the golf club .. father, mother( who was pregnant at the time)   and their daughter about 4  who was sitting on the back seat  was smashed  throught the windscreen  .. Does anyone out ther remeber this story ??
